Yeah kill stealing is a big problem for the lesser marksman (like me).

I assume you're playing arcade...? Your best bet is to take your favourite plane into training on realistic, and keeping notching down the elevator sensitivity until you can pull a full bank without stalling. Then get into, or create, realistic games.

You'll never look back after that guy explodes into flames after 1 second of gunfire

I think this game in particular was arcade. I like to play realistic, but today, I just couldn't find a realistic match, so I went ahead in the arcade match. I do prefer realistic. I actually fly better, and do get more kills in realistic.

As far as meaning win or loss, that damn sure wasn't the case, because we were on top something like 18-3. That is only because the two hot dogs both choose team A, and I ended up with them choosing random. But, it was 3 on 3, and they just zoomed around killing everybody, then swooping in to finish off my painful kills. It was getting irritating, and isn't the first time this has happened, but this time, just bugged me more. It is gonna get to where I wont even go into an arcade match, because I think most of them are the young gamers that like to do just what happened today. I think the Realistic, and Sim people seem to be cooler, and more "adult" players anyway. I have a couple teenagers I play allot with, that I am trying to get them into realistic more, but they are complaining about how hard it is.. I keep telling them, yeah, it is harder to get a kill I guess and keep your plane flying, but isn't that the point? If you like the other way, Ace Combat 6 can be had pretty cheap on Ebay now I think.. I dont' have a problem with people choosing teams to fly and team up with your personal friends, I do that too, but it is the hot dogging and taking your teamates kills, and flying like your ass is on fire in arcade that bugs me I guess, and I just tend to be loosing patients over..

But, no worries, it is expected me being an old man in a kids world, lol

P.S. I too like to go into training mode and put myself against 16 veterans. along with enemy ground flak and fire. I like to challenge myself, even if I do get killed allot. To me, living through a match like that is more fun than zooming around unrealistically like your ass is on fire...

Yeah, kill stealing can be an issue sometimes. I know I was in one game where the only kills this one guy got were from jumping on planes I had already gotten smoking.

Best advice for that problem is to try and play with people you know, preferrably ones with headsets. The group I fly with keeps up a lot of communication during team battles and strike matches and call out who we're after, or if we need help, etc. Helps keep kill stealing to a minimum, and helps tactics and coordination quite a bit.

Really nice for dealing with those damned biplanes when they get on your tail =P Just call out to a team-mate, straighten out, jam the throttle to outrun them, and let your buddy swoop down on them and blow them away. Me and a buddy in a 190 must have killed the same I-153 5 times or more in the same match with that tactic. Fell for it every time.

Co-op tactics work good on IL-10's too. It can only shoot at one of you at a time.

Yep, Iprefer team talk and strategy as well. I like to use strategic strikes, but getting some people to play as a team can be challenging. Some just get into the CTA and strike games and just fly around getting their kills. Not play the game as it was intended. I like to get with a team that we put together, because we had gotten very good at playing and using team tactics. Strike, I bomb, and a fighter or two stay with me to protect me from the buzzards while I strike, while other fighters say back to protect our ground... Same with CTA. my expertise is landings, some very creative avoiding fire, taking the field and then ground striking using small bombletts to protect it. Others in the team are better at air to air, so they take that on. My thing is hitting their people that land, and taking the landing myself.. Works out, and even though we do loose from time to time, but it is few and far between.. I like tactics and strategic over just death match type of play..

lol I lost count of the amount of times I got bombed by you in a CTA game tonight.

I had to play some arcade games for the first time in a long time (because its so bloody hard to find a game thanks to Operation Flashpoint 2 stealing all the online players) and I'm finding Arcade harder for me than my prefered Sim mode now.

Everything is so hectic and fast paced and everyone uses the 109-g6 because it seems to be the only plane that can blow up its target before someone spawns behind you in a G-6 and reaches out with god cannons and touches you and you die. So it goes like this. Spawn, dive, hammer the guy that spawned just before you, Get killed by the guy that spawned after you, Repeat.

Sim mode is so much slower, you have time to think. And without the homing markers, people can't just spawn and home in on you. It might seem so difficult at first ( It certainly did for me with Pedro the Goat murdering me at every opertunity) but after a few games you get in to it. I love it when I manage to sneek right up on someone and they don't know i'm there and on their map i'm hidden by their plane symbol. Then one small blast with the weakest of guns, makes it go boom.

CTA games also improve x100 in sim mode, with hiding on the airfield in smoke or behind a building becoming a usefull tactic. You have to be found and killed before the other side has a chance at taking the airstrip. It adds so much to the game. For me it is almost painfull to play an arcade CTA game now where even an untrained monkey could land, before a second later 3 bombs and two kamikazis fall on its confused face.

Sorry for joining this thread so late. I've played a number of times online now and feel the same you guys do. I may have 5 kills so far and especially in arcade matches, do just terrible. I have to rely on hit and run tactics to stay alive. Being an avid air combat hobbiest, I get frustrated at achieving so little. I always wonder if I am choosing the wrong aircraft or what. Although I know my immelmann turns could be alot better.

I'm on the other end of the spectrum, and I will admit I have accidentally shot down a team mate's quarry on more occasions than I care to admit. If you ever see me do it, I am very sorry, and will back off if I do see you after him (unless it's a B-17, then it's open game). Sometimes if I'm jumping target to target, I go after the quickest one I can lock on to. Only after downing them do I realize I just denied someone a kill, and I feel really bad about it.

And as far as your co-op tactics...I invite them with open arms. The IL-10 is the only thing I fly, and not for the tail gunner. And I seem to have an amazing AI gunner, he's downed at least twenty player aircraft while I was on someone in front of me. He's on his way to a raise!

Yeah, it happens to the best of us. Can't be totally careful all the time. I know I've accidentally killed my share of teammate kills, especially when we have the rare close game (most of ours end up being blowouts). I feel bad afterwards too.

As for the tactics, it really depends on the pilot too. Bad IL-10 pilots are easy to take down. They fly nice and straight trying to get tail gunner kills, and let you dive, climb and shoot them in their guts =P

...good IL-10 pilots actually put up a good fight, and manuver aggressively to keep their guns on you. Personally, I think you almost HAVE to double-team those things if you want to take them down with any efficiency. Even a G-6 has to hammer away at them to down one (in Arcade).

Now what I really love are people who try to bring medium and heavy bombers into a team battle or strike. Me and the guy I usually fly with LOVE to blow them out of the air with rockets >=D lol. Das takes pride in not seeing any parachutes pop out. Says he's saving the infantry some work =P. There was this one IL-10 in a team battle once, and Das must have blown him out of the air with rockets 8 or 9 times before the match was done. Das loves his rockets. lol
