there was a willingdon airbase, but it was a US bomber airfield I think, not likely to be relevant to the battle of britain.
scratch that......I'm talking crap, there is a memorial to a crash site there, but willingdon airbase I heard of is not even in the UK so it seems. p.s. another thing....wasn't wilmington on sea a fictional town made up for the 'dad's army' TV series?
