I don't know about others but I find it hard with things like knots, feet and on the other side armament options in German. I know some will say to be historically correct I should learn German terms and English measurements, but if I fly with the luftwaffe I'd be German and know the language and the same with the RAF. Later if we get into the Russian front and the Pacific Theater the same problem will exist. I think it'd be cool to choose language setting, to have say AI pilots talking in English with a German accent.
What do you guys thick?

Actually it's been a long standing convention by now and i don't expect it to change. You could probably copy over the sound files from the English language pack to the axis folders (people did a lot of mix and match in IL2 like this), but i don't really expect them to get another recording for "hollywood" accents due to cost.

For example, they would need a "German English" accent now, a "Russian English" when the eastern front add-on is completed, a "Japanese English" if they start doing something for the pacific, not to mention that people who actually speak these languages would want and ask for the original soundpack in their own native language: we would need two soundpacks for each non-English language.


I remember how impressed i was when i heard proper German in some old sim way back in the day. I'm not sure but i think it was aces of the deep and i immediately thought: wow, finally, subtitled German instead of a "hollywood fritz" accent. I also liked how communications and briefings were handled in European Air War.

I only speak my native language and English, but the different language packs in IL2 was one of the features i liked most.
It sets the mood very well for me, because each people have a part of their collective characteristics reflected in their language even just by the way it sounds. I might not understand Finnish or Russian, but it gets me in the mood to pretend i'm one for the duration of the mission---> immersion enhancement.

After a while i get used to how each bit sounds and i can understand what's being said without looking at the subtitles much.

Feel free to grab a mic and a neat recording program and make a speech mod or something. But don't force it on everybody please.

When I think of a Me109 with instruments in feet, mph and psi, and the pilot communicating that way, it gives me "teh gigglez", actually

Additionally, even in the old, non-standardized world, there were only a very few sets of units of measurement in use. It shouldn't be too hard to get used to two, at most three units of measurement. Hell, even today, you'd have to learn conversion from mph into knots...

P.S.: I was one of those who changed the old 1946 speed bar to km/h, mph or knots, as appropriate. Another immersion factor (asides from the speedbar itself ) you'll have to rip from my cold, dead hands tbqh.

I think its funny, in the manual (English version) it tells you adsactly what the RAF bullets are and the type of powder, but vaguely tells you what the German rounds are....actually ive realised that you really need to know your stuff just to play this game...if you are a new comer you might aswell take up a course in ww2 aircraft history just to know what your doing

I'm Aussie and the units of measure here are decimal( We changed from imperial back in the early 70's). Lucky for me my favorite plane is the FW190 (not yet available) and the BF109. I only fly Allied AC if online teams are uneven. This puts me at a disadvantage as instrument layout alone can be confusing without worrying about converting different countries measurement systems.
To the people that don't like it then switch it off. It's not just about historical accuracy after all the RAAF never flew Messerschmitts, it's just about keeping it enjoyable. As for ammo selection, I don't think to many non German speaking people would understand.

What is really need is accessible folder for actor voices, like in IL-2, so the communities make their own Voice Pack, as in old days.

Another thing - that Oleg say ''probable'' in some moment - is .INI file that allow player translate GUI for your native language. This help a lot for novice people.

Are you just trying to pick a fight? I am Australian and in my instruction manual the Ammunition Types section isn't easy to understand as its written in German terms. Usually an instruction manual is written for the country its to be sold in.
I like the realism of the sim but a simpler set up isn't to much to ask for. As for switching difficulty setting on or off surly that's up to the individual.
