did anyone finish this quest?
What happens later if you cut a deal with the dragon and what happens if you let him leave?

my choice are let him live and i buy some artifact and troop, even dragon egg if u lucky.. never choose to kill him

If you let him leave, you get less gold and no items. Be kind.

I suppose I can't confirm whether or not this is true, as there is no way to tell if I really "fully" complete the game.

I just found an empty dragon lair on the elf island. maybe it flies away here?
