phishing? huh? what are you talking about?
I came across this while looking FOR multi-core support for XP-SP3 which led me to HAL http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309283 which led me to posts by people using XP SP3 who upgraded there system but did not reinstall XP and because of this the OS was only see one core or did not have "multi-processor HAL" installed.
Quote:
To answer your questions, XP sees each core as a separate CPU, so if u have dual core, it will see it as 2 separate cores/CPUs... quad core --> 4 separate cores/CPUs...
So, with that said, XP sees all the cores as separate CPUs, whatever the BIOS reports, that's what the OS sees... nothing more, nothing else... There is no theoretical limit, it all depends on the supplied CPU drivers and updates...
There is a catch to this, to be able to use all the cores; you need to have a multi-processor HAL installed. If you have a basic Advanced ACPI under Device Manager-> Computer then you will only see a single Core, and the OS will not access the other ones...
which finally led me to a post with the above link...and i put it here because i thought it might be useful considering the various questions about "will my rig run CoD"...does that clear it up for you...

I thought the same, as you didn't give any explanation at all and just posted a link

Yes, very much - and hopefully for those you were referring to as well

One advice, though: XP doesn't support multi-threading, if that's the point. So performance gain with multiple CPU is very limited with 2 cores and more than 2 cores won't have a noteable impact at all. That has nothing to do with the programs you run. It's the OS.

i am running win7 but i thought i might try to find some useful info for those still running XP . i tried playing BC2 on a single core 2gb ram XP system....I could have painted the frames in oil faster than the system was rendering them .

For people running dual core XP systems might be better off upgrading to win7 home before upgrading there whole system.
