Can't select planes to join in custom missions

Hi,

Friends and me are trying to get our own custom co-op missions going, but it seems to be hit-or-miss.

The first test mission works fine, except the AI sometimes doesn't engage into combat (it just follows its waypoints into mountains).

Buddy made another more fleshed-out mission which seems to work better as a mission, however we can't properly play it co-op.

When we select a side, none of the plane icons show up (so we can't just select one and jump into the mission). Does anyone know what's causing this?

Are you clicking on a flag in the upper right to choose a side first?Then the birthplace will show on the map.
