I thought all the shells self-destructed, but while playing around I found the shells without a tracer don't. I was trying to fire single shots, and found that when a round without tracer fired, it wouldn't detonate in the distance - is that accurate?
A trivial point, but I'm just curious. |

It's the exact opposite of what I'd expect to happen.
There were 2 versions of 20mm tracer neither self destructed. |

We all sound like we were there and speak from experience.

I wouldn't worry about the german self-destructing cannon shells, i'd worry about the hispano suiza 200 000mm autocannon. No pictures from the test facility of the first test firing exist, but a nearby grunt squad were having lunch during their long march and caught it on camera. The test facility can... erhm, could be seen in the background
Luckily only one round was fired before the gun was destroyed from the blast. Imagine the magazine emptying completely. Luftwhiners, beware! Last edited by Strike; 06-03-2011 at 09:11 PM. |

Sternjaeger wins (said in Mortal Kombat voice)
Thanks for that. Never thought wikipedia would have such a ridiculously detailed amount of info for the MG151/20. (This isn't in the Emil though is it?) In any case, from what I gather there, CLOD is therefore incorrect - anytime tracer is mentioned there, so is 'no self destruct', so it seems to be the other way around. Case closed enough for me, thanks. Last edited by ARM505; 06-04-2011 at 06:45 PM. |
