What, one of the developers himself telling you exactly why they chose the plane models isn't enough? They said they have to choose a
balance between historical accuracy and gameplay.

accidentally made the wrong variant of Spitfire, wasting dozens of hours of work and thousands of dollars because they didn't check the Wikipedia article carefully enough.
