The reason why there is a difference between the points and the data in the record is that they do count different thinks:
If you damage an enemy aircraft (e.g. "grey smoke") and it lands safely at the airfield, you get 100 points, but you don't get the kill - because it wasn't killed.
I'd sugguest you stick with the data that are stored within the log file, as all the other competition systems do.
