probably time for a new stick, but there are a couple of things you could try

you could try cleaning the potentiometers inside- dust may have got in or the track may have deteriorated over time-been sitting. spraying electrical switch cleaner down the shaft and operating the pot several times MAY help.

you could also try recalibration
devices and printers> r click on logitech joystick tile. click on the settings tab and then the calibrate button.
if after this the movement is erratic in the test tab, then go get a new stick
