If you'd said it's a bit
more immersive without icons, I'd even agree with you, as I prefer to fly without, too. But Icons off or on is surely not the difference between MickeyMouse and Shakespear.
If you then consider that icons on WC only display at very short range and that you furthermore have the choice to switch them off on your PC, your judgement is surely none that can be taken anywhere close to serious.
