Save as *.jpg, set quality to 10 (in Photoshop) which gives you good balance between size and quality (around 550-600 kB). In other programs, like IrfanView you can use optimizing plugins to get rid of unwanted information or even set the desired size in kB and save it like that.
What I would start with is removing the layer with internal parts - it's hard coded anyway and it really adds up to the final size due to amount of colours used. If you are using Photoshop, just experiment with the default save as settings, they're good enough and you'll find some settings that will give you reasonable size (for me that is around 1MB) and no dithering or too much pixelation.
