Sorry but I don't think it's limited to 1 race.
On Vestlig I think there are some dwarves too.. I had miners, alchemists and engineers. Also there are snakes in Isstereng at the witch and wolf/bears/thorns in other places. And lets not forget trolls. But that sucks indeed if you didn't find any maidens. They quite useful in the opening stage of game.
