I've recently returned back to my MSFFB2 stick from the Thrustmaster TM16000, just because I prefer the ergos of it (the TM16000 is an excellent stick, though, especially for just $47). I downloaded a couple of FFB files from our friends here:

After a little poking around, I located CoD's ForceFeedback files here:
C: Program Files (x86)/Steam/SteamApps/common/il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover/parts/core/FF
(yeah, I know someone here could've pointed me there right away, but I just like pokin' around....

)
After backing up the game's FF file, I then did a bit of mix 'n match with the FF files contained within the two modded FFB files found in the link above. Basically, I wanted to tone down the gun files and the shake files in order to aim properly and be able to nurse an ailing Spitfire/Hurricane home without the stick shaking off the desk. Mission accomplished.
The other nuisance of FFB kicking in and out at weird times is obviously a glitch that hopefully 1C will fix in upcoming patches.
