The water may be the clue. transparent shorelines.
Could it be subs that you can see underwater?
Or maybe be AA you can man on trucks and trains.
In time I think all this will be possible in CLoD.
Cliffs of Dover- Planes, Trains, Ships and automobiles all derivable and all have manageable gun stations by different people in MP.
Now that would make the competitors squirm.
