According to another poster who tested this, this is a visual bug that probably occurs when a player sets his gear controls to neutral.

As to what neutral does, it stops the gear retraction motors/hydraulic pumps. If the control was left in the up or down position, the motor/pump would continue running even after the gear had locked into position, placing unnecessary strain on the system.

I missed this initially, but then i decided to map separate up/down commands and stop using the toggle switch, in order to follow the historical procedure.

There's no penalty yet for leaving the motors running but we could possibly expect some kind of failure (eg, over-pressure in the hydraulics resulting in a busted pipe and leak) as the DMs get further fleshed out, so i'm trying to pick up good habits and follow proper procedures early on
