Finally figured this out had nothing to do with this game.
When I upgrade to windows 7 I was able to take advantage of my internet providers free anti virus software.
Was running win xp pro 64 bit and the software wasnt compatable.
Well it also installed a program called Constant Guard and it played havoc with my keyboard in game and other programs.
Uninstalled this and keyboard works fine again.
