In both solutions you have only 1.5 GB of VRAM - 1.5 GB is assigned to each GPU core. Even when SLI is working, you only have 1.5 GB of VRAM effectively.

You mean less than a proper 580 SLI solution.
Cheap power regulation, runs very hot, "only" 1.5 GB of usable VRAM, and with no working SLI for CloD yet - I can not see it as a better option than a GTX 580, or 2 x 580 in SLI.
