Anyone had any luck upgrading to 4.10m directly from the Steam install? I downloaded it last night so I could have a fresh install to start with. Here's what I did, and what happened:
- Downloaded IL-2 from Steam.
- Ran the steam .exe, and 4.09m loaded up fine.
- Copied the "IL2 Sturmovik 1946" out of steamapps into my "C:\Games\IL2 410m" directory.
- Ran il2_410.exe from the torrent from here and exported it to the new directory.
- Ran the il2fb.exe in the folder... but this didn't work because apparently the 4.10m patch doesn't change the .exe... so I...
- Copied my il2fb.exe file from my "C:\Games\IL2 409m" directory.
- Ran the il2fb.exe in the folder. The 4.10m splash screen loaded up, and it got up to 95% and then just hung there for like 10 minutes before I decided to End Process on it (which left my desktop resolution at 1024x768 instead of 1920x1200, by the way... GOD this game is old).
So where did I go wrong? I also tried copying over my 409m conf.ini and users folder and that just seemed to make things worse... so the above list is what I would assume is the "sure fire" way to go about getting this to work. But it don't.
