You pretty much have all the facts. Without the active display port adapter, that's no CrossFire (using both GPUs together) for the 3 monitors.
The other part (in the link) is that IL-2 does not use CrossFire.
So even if you get the adapter to hook all 3 monitors into an eyefinity setup with CrossFire, IL-2 will not be using both GPUs.
I can get CrossFire "active" in IL-2, but it doesn't improve performance. Hope all this makes sense to you
