Help please !

I've just bought the full version and get a generic "This application has encountered an error..." message every time.

I am fed up trying to get this to work. My pc should be able to run this at least reasonably. The spec or my machine is as follows

Windows Xp sp3
MOBO IS A ga7 vax with Athlon 2400+ proc
GIGABYTE 6200 256mB VIDEO CARD
1.5 GB Memory

I've tried the 1.1 patch but nothing helps.

I really want to play this ...... how do I get it to work.
