It worked just perfectly! So I have two versions up and running. I named the main folder ...il2 1946 MOD. When I installed the orginal I had to remove the application and all of it's features...
.
But no problem. The folder remained (I did make a backup anyway) and now I just tried both of them by renaming the folder to their original before I launched the game/sim.
I will try what you said to make switching even more easy.
'just go into each folder and send a shortcut of the IL2.exe from each folder to your desktop and you'll have access to both versions easily'.
