Recommended Bugfixes and Mods for New Player?

I absolutely love  this series and about to start playing Warriors of the North.

I would really appreciate if someone could summarise the bugfixes, language mods, or anything else that I should install to get the most from this delicious game!

My base game (as it were) is from Steam the Vahalla Edition that appears to have last been updated 29th Jan 2013. When I go into Betas of the game in Steam there are 3 not clearly named versions... should I use one of these?

I frankly, would recommend not playing this game at all. Go back to Crossworlds... You'll only be disappointed. The latest bugfixes solve crash problems (not all of them, there is an instant-crash spell for example), but the game is not well written, the areas and quests are mundane and repetitive compared to the previous games, and the new units and spells are unbalanced at times. All in all, it was a very half-hearted effort to milk this engine one last time, and not a very well done game at all. I regret the days I wasted playing it and trying to fix the bugs myself.
