This has probably been answered already BUT

How do ya manually launch say one salvo of missiles at a particular target. Or do ya just click the 'on' button on each character tumbnail and watch them fire away like crazy? As in there's the millile strike (R Button) but my lads just keep on firing like loons

off the missile after they fire the first one?

That's what I do. Only way that I know of. Seems to work fine (in combination with pausing).
