Is there a way to speed up animations (during combat?)

I've already selected the boolean option in the options screen for fast animation but they still seem pretty slow esp compare to previous versions; is there a tweak (perhaps hand edited option) that will speed up combat?
-
I take from other threads this one is not everyone's favorite and balance et all is more out of whack than the norm ?
-
If that is the case hopefully this bad experience will not kill the series and they will return to Katuari ?

Yes, but the only way I know to do so is to edit the .atom files of each unit individually...

For the steam version, go to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\King's Bounty - Warriors of the North\data

Then unzip the data.kfs (I use winrar) to some location on your hard drive, say C:\KBMods.

Sort the extracted files by file type, the .atom files are the ones you should be editing... now just look for {unitname}.atom, some troops have slightly different names (Royal Thorn -> kingthorn.atom, Royal Griffin -> griffin2.atom, Executioner -> demon2.atom, ...)

To speed up the animation, edit the file in a text editor, and scroll down to the "animations {" section. Now look for lines that say: "fr:zz:yy", to increase animation speed, edit the yy value into something higher (but I'm pretty sure it has to be in multiples of the original value). So, for example:

attack=thorn_attack.bsa/fr:25:50

changed into:

attack=thorn_attack.bsa/fr:25:100

Will yield an attack for the Royal Thorn that is twice as fast as the original. 150 three times, 200 four times faster, etc.

Save the desired .atom file(s), and copy them into:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\King's Bounty - Warriors of the North\data\Mods

(may have to create the Mods folder if it doesn't exist yet).

I am not so familiar with this but can it be done with the lava golem ? Everytime it came in the battle just grind to a snail's pace.....

Thank you

Thanks Dennis; seems a bit of a pain but I should give it a try or at least with the critters that are most painful.

Yes, you can speed up lava golem animations, except they are contained in a different location (along with the new viking unit animations + the new rage talents), they can be found in:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\King's Bounty - Warriors of the North\sessions\addon\ses.kfs

Just place the updated .atom files in that folder (no need to create a Mods directory).

HOWEVER, I think the lava golem slowing things down to a crawl has nothing to do with animations, it seems to be more of a graphics/performance issue... maybe turning down graphics options (lighting, shadows perhaps?) would help with that.

Someone on this forum figured out a patch for it. I don't remember how/what he did, but he definitely fixed it but I think it disabled his "glow".

Yes, it does take some time, but I find it's worth doing for all of the undead units, units most often used in your army, and your most popular spells (stoneskin for instance takes FOREVER).

Ah yes, a fix can be found here:

I guess using this method you have to check on each update to make sure that the mobs didn't change and if they did re-mod them (if you want the modifications) ?

That's right, which is a bit of a pain I suppose. I may be wrong, but I don't think there have been much updates on the troop .atom files though (most of the bugs are in the .lua script files).

Download Cheat Engine. Bind a key to speed hack 1x/2x/5x. Have fun, works for almost anything*

*Make sure to have speed at 1x for KB games before loading areas/battles or the game stalls and takes really long to finish. Generally a good precaution for most other games too.
