devs didn't like bears

I am really wondering if this was intented but I just noticd this

If you are fighting against bears
and you have the skill diversion

and with some luck u let 2-3 bears skipping their turn

you actually get 2 free turns! lol since u know since bears don't do anything they fall asleep
and when they sleep they don't do shit (but at the next turn they regen HP) but who cares about that when u have 2 free turns to spend on killing the rest:D

I think there should be a minor fix for this either don't let bears get diversed or don't let them hibernate when they do nothing but actually put it in as an ability(with a reload of 1)

ckdamascus 11-18-2012 03:17 PM

This was around even in Armored Princess. A small price to pay for that enrage ability. :)

It was terribly useful early on in Armored Princess since they were typically very dangerous stacks so having them temporarily out of battle for 2 round was almost mandatory for survival.

Razorflame 11-18-2012 03:23 PM

dude there is no diversion in KB:AP

i am not talking about distortion magic

the spirit tree got a skill DIVERSION that gives u random chance of enemy stacks skipping their first turn

unless CW edited something(still have to install that bugger) xD

Actually, I think damascus is talking about hibernation being in AP. I.E. preventing a bear from moving there ALSO made them lose 2 turns.

Sometimes the AI seems to randomly defend with bears for some reason, which promptly puts them to sleep. Hibernation is really pointless on a stack of 100 bears. If the ability would regen the whole stack it'd actually be somewhat useful and not a downside.

Nirual 11-19-2012 10:12 AM

I've seen them defend if they were slowed, which naturally leads to hibernation.

the AI just isn't that smart to take that stuff into consideration.

ckdamascus 11-19-2012 01:44 PM

What the others said. There were definitely ways to "fool" the AI into going into hibernation when they could have just "moved" one step to avoid it.

I forgot what I did back in Crossworlds. I think using engineers I could "blind" bears with the flask and while they were 'blind' they would opt to "sleep".

All I can say is, I really needed that in Bolo in Crossworlds. :)

Razorflame 11-19-2012 07:34 PM

just but what i truly mean is

(spells not including to get a bear into hibernation)

it's just the diversion skill

It saves u mana/rage by not having to pay attention for that bears for 2 turns

which is a HUGE difference in some fights

i can understand blind/fear w/e u put on a bear to prevent it from moving and going into hybernation but that cost u mana to do it(also a bit lame but still)

whereas the diversion skill only costing u runes and if u get lucky u get 2 free turn against bears

hence i said let the bear have a ability to go into hibernation with a reload of 1 or 2 or something problem fixed

it's kinda stupid by clicking defense that a bear will go to sleep if it hasn't moved

ckdamascus 11-19-2012 07:56 PM

Diversion is a fantastic supplemental skill and was paramount for a lot of my victories as a Viking/Warrior in my first play through. I don't see why put any exception for bears. :) (Maybe deep down I hate them too... traumatized by too many fights in Bolo in Armored Princess).

As you said, diversion is based on luck. While I think it is a good skill, it is hardly a good use of early runes as I prefer to use runes on hard guarantees, not hoping it will work on a bear for 2 turns. :)

Razorflame 11-20-2012 01:04 PM

yes but diversion was intended to give u a chance of giving a enemy troop a % to skip it's first turn

AFAIK the bear is the only unit who get's penalized twice due to his hibernation mode

I don't think this was intended
or at least not thought through
