I have created an upgraded Soothsayer
 

However I can't figure out how to connect a picture to it - I have done the skills, features etc and the unit shows up in the game. So everything besides the image works. How do I get an image to work with this atom file ?

The pictures you are looking for , are stored in Data folder /interface-textures.kfs
They are PNG files . You should look for names like ;

2portret_pers_0.png
NewGame_portrait_mage.png
olaf_bg2.png
etc...

With trials and errors you will find all of them.
