At th end of the sortie you dived too much to evade that enmy. You don't hve to dive downto deck.

Just dive shallow untill you reach a speed superior to that of the max speed of the guy in your 6, flatten, wait for co E and then shallow climb. Since th 109 has the edge in P/W ratio, you will climb away from him.

A shallow climb is one at around 450+Kph

That way you keep your E in case he calls his buddies.

There is nothing more dangerous that cross the channel deck.

In general Always add something to something... If you had finished your dive, add a slight climb rate to your straight flight etc... etc...

I had no idea how far behind the enemy was. I was told to dive hard so I did and as you saw he fired on me so I was within guns range... Climbing would have been bad, although I did ask if I could level out cos, for the reasons you mentioned, I was getting too low!
