Is CloD any where near IL2 1946 yet?

Hello

Last time I played CloD was not long after it was released and I had completed the single player "campaign".

Now at that time the FPS on my rig (ATI 5870 1GB, AMD Phenom II x4 955 @3.2GHZ, 8GB RAM, Win 7 64bit) wasn't all that great and there was no dynamic campaign like in IL2 1946, I also found the single player "campaign" to be rather lack lustre and the ending rather poor.

So, I'm wondering if CloD has advanced now to the point where it's not just focused on the multiplayer/single mission aspect and actually has a proper dynamic campaign like IL2 1946 and I'm also wondering if the framerate has improved?

Having completed the single player "campaign" and having no interest in multiplayer or the single missions I basically want to know if it's worth me re-installing the game and getting it patched up/modded - I dearly want an IL2 1946 with the updated graphics of CloD?

Thanks.

IL-2 1946 evolved over many years of development and mod improvements with the best campaigns coming from community modders. Unfortunately COD's new game engine is still a WIP, with the latest beta patches making improvements to the engine's stability and performance. If the these patches are successful, the developer can start concentrating on gameplay issues. This should get more people involved in flying and building decent dynamic campaigns.

We have a dynamic mission/campaign generator by the community (forgot the name and who did it, pls. search for it) and very excellent static campaigns by Desastersoft.

But in my opinion single player is pretty flawed because of stupid AI and not working radio commands.

Hey

I have the same graphics card an a weaker cpu. With my rig i get mostly stable fps. So give it a try, performancewise, you should be okay.

For offline playing, i can highly recommend the desastersoft-campaigns.

All over, clod is nowhere near 1946, but as it has been said, this just neds more time. 1946 had 10 years of development, involving the community, which clod had not...

Hi Raven

You should see a useful improvement in performance using the latest beta patch, the only real down-side is the current omission of cloud (and smoke) shadows, but I don’t find this too distracting. There are also a number of user-created campaigns that I have being flying, which I downloaded from airwarfare.com. You can also download a demo of the ‘Wick vs. Dundas’ campaign from Desastersoft that you can try before deciding. I’d suggest giving it another go :)

Agreed.

1946 was released in buggy but better shape than CoD and was a much less complex software and it took 10 years. CoD was in way worse shape on release and is more complex so by this analogy expect it to take longer than 1946.

Until CLoD gets a good single player campaign, it will remain unplayed on my machine.

You cannot compare IL2 46' to CLoD...true. But do you guys not think the devs would have seen what made it so good over the years and implemented that into CLoD? If you trained for 10 years for the Olympics and came in 1st, would you need to retrain ALL OVER again for the next Olympic games? No, you take what you learned and apply it to fine tuning for the next 4 years.

I would play CLoD even in its current state...if there was a reason to for offline. Online in CLoD does not interest me.
