question about motor and clouds
 

Hello,

I have a question regarding the clouds and the motors. When I enter a cloud, after few seconds my motors begin to sputter and finaly cut out. I think this is link to the low temperature and high humidity in the clouds and that's nice.

The problem is that I tried to activate the carb heater but there is no change.

Have you any idea about how to manage to travel through cloud without having motors to cut out ?

in Blenheim, carb heater works fine. Take care cause it drops a bit power and engage it one minute before clouds.

depending on the airplane, there is or is not a carb heater. However, there is always a pitot heater. Pitot heater should always be active if there is a chance you will get into the clouds. 109's, iirc, don't have carb heat because they are fuel injected. Most of the German aircraft didn't have carbs. Spits and Hurri's, however, did. So, it depends on which aircraft you were flying.

Hello Stirwenn, thank you for your help. Yes, the Blenheim have a carb heater and I turned it on before entering the cloud but it didn't make any difference (I play with the last beta patch installed). Does it works for you ?

Hello Droz, what is the difference between the carb heater and the pitot heater ? Does the game simulate it ? I don't remember to have seen this thing ?

According to the devs that is caused by Propeller icing. Carby heat wont help here obviously.

Question is would you get prop icing at 2km in the middle of summer?

It's a nice effect, however, it is way poorly simulated. Needs a lot of work.

Forget my question about pitot. I checked the command in the game and yes, pitot is simulated. Moreover, I read some document on internet to understand the purpose of pitot system. And yes, it is simulated in the game, I saw a video on youtube of a guy making a good example in a BF110 : he flight in a cloud, every windows gets freezed and he check the indicated speed with and without the pitot heater activated. This make a great difference in indicated speed.

So, now that I understand pitot, tell me if I am wrong but I don't think it can help to avoid motor to cut out but I did a try. There is not difference. With or without pitot, the motor cut out.

So, so far, I still don't know how to avoid the motor to sputter and cut out in clouds.

Well, if you have read about the pitot tube, then you know this device has absolutely nothing to do with aircraft propulsion systems whatsoever, you even place it as far from engine as possible. As a result, Its heater obviously doesn't change performance of the engine, why should it?

Not sure about cut-out problem though!
