New beta patch is dx10 only?! Read if you can't get COD to start after updating.

This is horrible. I have direct x 11 on my win7 system.. Microsoft won't let you downgrade to dx10!!! I've been trying every trick in the book to get COD to run... Cache clearning/verifying etc. Please update the Beta thread with the links to the update and make it clear it won't run if you have dx11.

Does anyone think there's a way to somehow manually remove dx11 files and install dx10?

No the patch is fine for DX11, if you have DX11 hardware you can run anything, it's only people with DX9 that can't use it, your problem must be something other than a DX11 issue.

There's no need to worry, the fact about being DX10 only affects Win XP users or people with cards that do not have DX10+ capabilities. Windows Vista/7 will run all DX11/10/9 applications, as long as you have compatible hardware of course.

Edit: I missed that you are having issues getting COD to run, are you getting an error popup? Is it just not opening and nothing happens?

it just won't open. I reinstalled steam and COD... opened fine. extracted patch to main COD directory... Now it won't launch when i click play.

ugh, this sucks so bad. I tried everything i can think of (cache stuff, nivida settings, turned hyperthreading back on). I was hoping i could play the new patch all day sunday... unfortunately sunday is nearing it's end :(

Hmm... The first thing I would try is to make a backup of your "1C SoftClub" folder in your Documents folder, and then turn off the steam cloud (right click on IL-2 in your Steam library -> Properties -> Updates -> uncheck Enable Steam Cloud) just for troubleshooting purposes. Then delete your conf.ini (or the whole 1C SoftClub folder if you would prefer to have everything 'fresh' just to try to get the game running, just absolutely make sure you have your backup somewhere safe!) inside your 1C SoftClub folder. Also, when you copied over the patch files did you make sure that everything got properly overwritten?

HorrorRoach 05-07-2012 01:31 AM

Yup, i extracted the patch to the root directory. tried the 1c softclub thing, didnt work. I noticed that after i apply the patch, verify the cache integrity, it'll say 31 files are junk and redownloads them. obviously doesnt help to open the game though.

But if you're verifying the cache AFTER installing the patch, Steam will be overwriting the patch files with the current release version won't it?

i had the similar issue at the very beginning right after applying the patch

i deleted everything inside /cache/ folder and also conf.ini file and the sim started normally,

those are located in:

..\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\

after some experimentation , i have noticed the sim won't launch when i try to set all graphics settings to max with SSAO and VSYNC to 'on' - i thought with the 680GTX i could afford that, but apparently not.

right now i have it running 'fine' - sort of, using the default preset setting "HIGH" but without ssao and vsync

HorrorRoach 05-07-2012 02:21 AM

since i deleted the 1csoftclub folder, COD won't even open up to make a new one. i figured that verifying the cache is a bad thing after updating, so i reinstalled the patch again afterwards to get the new cache files back in there. nothing really works.

i suppose i could do another fresh install, and set the video settings to low or something and then update. ugh
