No Force Feedback from control surfaces on airspawn

E69_Pupo and me have been wondering in the bugtracker, wether this is a bug or a pecularity of my system setup.

Symptom:
  1. If I spawn on ground and start normal, there's force feedback from the control surfaces (aileron, elevator) relative to speed and flight situation (plus force feedback from ground, engine, guns, etc).
  2. If I spawn in mid-air there's always force feedback from engine and guns but sometimes not from the control surfaces (aileron, elevator).

Steps to reproduce (And I can reproduce this with 100% hit rate):
  • Start Computer
  • Start CloD
  • Go into Single Player, Quick missions, start any (i.e. "Free Flight - Channel")
  • Hit "Fly"
Now, there is either force feedback from the control surfaces or there is not.

(A) If there is no force feedback
  • Take up speed and make a looping
  • force feedback from the control surfaces kicks in halway through it

Force feedback from the control surfaces will then always be present in airspawns, unless:

(B) If there is force feedback
  • Hit <Esc>
  • Exit back to Quick Missions
  • Exit CloD (Main Menu, Exit)
  • Restart CloD
  • Go into Single Player, Quick missions, start any (i.e. "Free Flight - Channel")
  • Hit "Fly"
  • There's no force feedback from the control surfaces

The difference between having force feedback from the control surfaces or not having it is big: rather stiff or totally limp. The stall flutter is completely missing in the latter case.

My system specs:
i5-2500K @4,2GHz, Chipset Z68X
X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty, GTX580 3GB, 25,5"@1920x1200
Logitech G940 (Throttle and Pedals modded), 2 BU0836A, 1 BU0836X
FreeTrack, BlueSoleil, Wii Remote
Windows 7 Professional 64bit
The settings for ForceFeedback are: "Overall" (100), "Spring" (75), "Damper" (100), "Centering Spring" disabled. Logitech Profiler is not running.

Now: E69_Pupo could not reproduce it at all.

As I do not want to clutter the bugtracker with speculations, I've taken the issue here.

I have the same problem with my G940.

Air spawning offline, it's just a floppy stick but with gun rattles etc until a few exaggerated maneouvres 'kick-in' the ffb. It doesn't seem to be as much of a problem air-spawing online, however.

Online, if I alt/tab out of the game whilst flying, to change ts channel or whatever, alt/tabbing back into the game locks the stick almost solid until a few hard pulls on the stick frees it again and normal flight is resumed.

All global device settings and game ffb settings are set at 75%, with no centring spring enabled. I also don't use the profiler.

Annoying isn't it?

Aye Dutch, this mirrors my G940 experience exactly, and I use similar settings to yours. I remember confirming this with you a good while back and asking others, it was brought to the devs attention long ago. FFB in CoD is generally substandard. Really needs a big improvement....they have the sound guy on board from RoF, and unless I'm mistaken I think he also implemented RoF's FFB (which is much better, particularly on the ground and speed-control surface deflection differences), so heres hoping.

Artist, if you make a bugtracker entry I will vote for it, and I'm sure others will too. You are definitely not alone. :)

Cheers.

There's already one, #191, but as you can see there, Pupo has an almost identical system setup to mine and cannot reproduce it at all - this was what made me wonder...

We need more supportive/contradictive evidence, ideas and proposals. I'd really like to now what is different in Pupo's setup - or any others where this issue does not arise.

Hi Artist, I completely missed the first line of your OP somehow :o, sorry about that lol. Right, I'll have a look see tomorrow when I have time, and hopefully I'll be able to do some more testing. I would like to know why Pupo does not have this problem too, as everyone I know who has a G940 has these issues (albeit about 4 people hehe).

Cheers.

To compare the interaction of the G940 with the rest of the hardware and software, information about

software, operating system and G940-firmware

is essential...

A modded Logitech G940 (Throttle and Pedals modded), 2 BU0836A, 1 BU0836X indeed is very special and as such is not really suitable for a comparison.

Ok, even Pupo can now reproduce this issue.
Changed issue #191 from "Feedback" to "New".

To all: Please vote!

Done. :)

Yeah, same trouble here, with my G940.
I have to shake my plane or even give some landing flaps to make the FFB working...

Strange thing is it's not occuring each time i start a new flight.

Not strange - it's possibly circumstantial evidence to the nature of the bug: There's probably some FFB initialization missing on airspawns, so the Damper-FFB just keeps the state it was in before. Speculation, however.
