Wow. Very much the end of an era.

As it happens, my paternal Grandad and my Great Great Uncle both served in WWI and somehow, their medals stayed in the family 'til I got them.

Great Great Uncle (Great Grand-Uncle?) Harry was killed in 1915 at the age of 42 and was a regular private who served in the South African campaign and on the Northwest Frontier. Consequently all three medals were awarded posthumously.

I know nothing of my Grandad's service, but he died in 1947 of something nasty.

Crappy mobile phone picture of medals attached. I had them re-ribboned only a few years ago.
