Hurricane Water Radiator Perforated Solved.

I started the campaign in the Hurricane.

With CEM and Temperature Effects enabled, I was getting into the air, but then even before putting away my flaps, the coolant temp was over the max. Then Water Radiator Perforated! followed by an Oil Gasket! and then oil on the windscreen and EFATO.

For start up I had:

Fuel Cock - Main
Magnetos: Both On
Throttle: Cracked (10%)
Pitch: Full
Mix: Cracked (even less than throttle)
Radiator lever: Raised.
Key I to start engine.

The vets have picked it already - here's the fail:
In the Hurricane - the Radiator is full open when pushed to the floor of the cockpit.

Since I discovered THAT little secret- my temps have been managable even in combat.

Happy flying nuggets!

All the best,
- Dave Decay

I started a new thread so that the error message was included in the thread title, making this post more searchable. Dave Decay

Nice one Dcay.

Just a quick FYI Dave, if you want to start the Hurricane authentically...switch the fuel cock to reserve. In RL the Hurricane Mk.I could not start on the main tank.

I am having the issue that I can only start the Hurricane on the main tank, not the aux.

Just had a quick practice mop and the Hurri can definitely start on both tanks with no problems. Make sure your prop pitch is 100%, mixture is 0% (fully back in the cockpit or down in the small gauges tab), give a little bit of throttle, both magnetos are selected, radiator fully open and make sure you're selecting the correct tank (it's the small knob which you should use to point towards the selected tank not the long one).
Hope this helps and good luck.

Moggy you are totally correct. I must have missed something when I tested it.

Moggy 11-12-2011 10:42 AM

No worries mop, it's easily done. Glad it's working for you.

Moggy... I seem to have to add a caveat to my previous reply. I tested it in a single mission, and it worked. Starting from the reserve tank did not work in the Hurricane in the campaign.

Have not tested any further... maybe no fuel in the reserve in the campaign? Will test in the next few days and report back.

I must admit mop, I haven't flown any of the campaigns yet so I don't know. I tested the reserve tank and the fuel contents gauge. I flew along the coast from Tangmere and got as far as Ramsgate before the tank ran dry. No problems there, both seem to be working fine.
