Lame Ducks!

I was on the Australian Skies server during s quiet moment (only myself and one other on the server) as I couldn't find the other guy, I headed over to Calais and strafed some oil tanks. I turned back and did another run. A tank exploded and I was forced to fly through the fire ball. When I looked out the window I saw that my wing had caught on fire!

I forced landed with gear down and then ran into a cannal and flipped into the water.

When I respawned I looked to the side and saw a burning Hurricane!

I'm not sure if this was a ghost of my previous aircraft or what!

Cheers!

Very cool! Pre-patch I did the same in a Spit. I set fire to a bunch of fuel tanks near Dover just to watch the pyrotechnics and flew through the flames to see what would happen. Thought I got through unscathed, but then noticed that my port wing was on fire. As I climbed out the fire spread back along the wing, threatening to immolate the whole aircraft. Going into coarse pitch I had enough room for a power dive which extinguished the flames, with no apparent damage upon examination in external view. I later landed normally with no problems.

Unlike yourself, I didn't have the presence of mind to grab some screenshots or even get some video footage. :(. Gorgeous shot, BTW!

The question is: is it reproducable?

1.) in general
2.) on certain maps only (mapping problem)
3.) not at all (that'd be the worst case :-P )

Yes!

I've seen this many times.

I experienced this on ATAG a few days ago.

I was warming my engine at Hawkinge when it got bombed and my pilot was killed... I jumped into another spit looked to my left and saw this...

OUCH!!!

If you really want look at your damage/aircraft after you have landed all you have to do is jump to the other team and you can see it for a few seconds before it disappears...

Beautiful

Lol..that Spit is trashed!

On that note about looking at your Aircraft...explain again m8?

JG52Krupi 09-22-2011 04:55 PM

LOL sorry that didn't make sense.. Once you have landed hit escape and join the other team, it comes up saying do you want to leave your aircraft hit yes then just press escape and it exits the map screen and your back in the game but viewing your aircraft from outside :D very cool!

Just gonna quickly check this to make sure I haven't missed any steps.

I am not sure if this is the same thing.

I have an FMB test map.I start it by creating a server and then join.

Many times I have taxied down the runway in a Spitfire only to nose over and break the propeller. Each time when I respawn I see the old Spitfire on the runway with a broken propeller.

If you crash on the same location your next plane spawns it's not a bug: objects don't despawn automatically by design.

The reasons are not apparent yet to most, but there is use for this in the future. A couple of years later we'll all be having better PCs and CoD will be better optimized, we might be able to have persistent online environments. Well, it sure looks better flying over the battlefield and seeing the smoking wrecks of armored vehicles battling it out, than not seeing it because they automatically despawn after a while ;)
