new beta patch Nvidia drivers 285.27 ...
http://www.nvidia.es/object/win7-win...driver-es.html
this new beta patch V: 285.27 , can we set SLI now to ClOD???? |
EDIT: Disregard my tale of woe below. I tried to install wrong driver version. More details further in this thread. :)
I don't think so -- no mention of CoD in the update notes for SLI. I downloaded this new beta driver, uninstalled my current 280.26 driver, rebooted, and tried to install the beta. No joy. :( Instead I got error messages that 1) I had the incorrect Operating System (?????), and 2) my graphics card was an unrecognized brand (?????) Worse yet, I got the Blue Screen of Death when I tried to reinstall the 280.26 driver again. Ugh! I did a Win Recovery which worked perfectly, but only after an automatic -- and lengthy -- "disk repair" took place first. That was a couple of hours last night biting my nails that I choose not to repeat!!! Am sticking with the current driver for the time being. |
Thanks for the tip off Snapper, sorry to hear you've had problems.

Also, my experience needn't be universal -- everyone's system is set up a little differently (or a LOT differently) and likely someone else will have no difficulty whatsoever. Like most here, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Nvidia drivers a gazillion times before without a hitch. Before I uninstall a current driver I try to remember to set up a Recovery Point first. Then I reboot and hit F8 during the reboot in order to select "Safe Mode". I believe this switches the video driver from the Nvidia one I'm about to uninstall with the generic Windows 7 video driver. Once I've done a Safe Reboot, I go to Control Panel, Hardware Uninstall, select Nvidia graphic driver and double click. I also uninstall all the associated Nvidia files clustered around it. Upon doing a further reboot, I then navigate to the freshly downloaded new beta driver .exe file and double click on it. What normally follows is a new installation - it takes a little while but usually is a smooth process. Guess last night was not my night! :( |
Performance for me is way improved over 280 drivers, stutters over london sightseeing are gone, but SLI is still not working. Cant get a fraps readout on framerates in CLOD but overall much smoother feeling. BTW how to get fraps working again?
Performance for battlefield bad company 2 has increased by a good 10-20 fps, super smooth! Now i get a constant 60 fps with highest graphics setting possible at 2560x1600. |
I tried the 285.27 Beta drivers last night, uninstalled all previous drivers and a fresh instal. The new drivers seemed worse for me, made micro stutters more noticeable running Sli. So what did I do??, the obvious went back to the 280.26. Will wait for official release to see what happens.

2nd)You're no longer required to remove the old driver before installing the new one, just do a clean installation marking the apposite checkbox and the new NVIDIA installer will do the rest (probably avoiding problems like yours) |
Thanks, Steffam, looks like I could've saved myself a lot of grief last night! LOL I'll probably wait 'til 285.27 goes WQHL before I update - by then we'll know more about it, no doubt.
