Elevator dead spot

I have a PS3 with both the PS3 joy stick and the thrustmaster Hotas. I have the game IL 2 Sturmovik birds of prey and both joy sticks have a dead spot in the neutral position for the elevator. You have to move the elevator about an 1/8" up or down before the plane responds. Are there any settings that can be adjusted to eleminate this dead spot?

If you create a custom layout you can adjust the dead zone to something more to your liking.
