New Aircraft Camera Placement Options?

For the OFFICIAL RELEASE of Il2, not a MOD...

I was thinking how cool it would be to customize the F2 ( and F8 ) external view.

Placing the external view anywhere outside the aircraft (under the left wing, against the side of the fuselage, "inside" the 3d model cockpit location, etc.).

The reference point would need to be "unlocked" from looking directly at the aircraft's model centerpoint (as an option).

Similar to "Active Camera" in flight simluator.

conf.ini:

[camera]
max_distance 'n' (from default to 100 meters?)
pan_speed 'n'
unlock_center [1, 0]
etc.

+1

This would be a great way to simulate gun camera footage.

In some planes, if the cockpit was open, it could allow the pilot to "lean out" into the slipstream to better view the plane's engines, wings and fuselage.

It would also, with a bit of modification, allow simulation of periscope type gunsights, which were used with limited success on some early war aircraft (e.g., the first models of the B-25).

If IL2 had a realistic astronomy (i.e., positions of the sun and stars correct), this feature could also be reworked to allow celestial navigation.

There is a mod for that.

This mod smoothes the camera movement and let's you position the camera position anywhere you want.
It has a zillion other features, too :D

I'll check it out.
I am, of course, hoping for 4.14m.
