What's for the futur?

Hi,

I just watched a DTG Flight School preview gameplay

www.youtube.com/watch?v=rM5s7FznTpQ

When watching I thought about what could be made in the futur for Il2 1946?
Did you ever thought about changing the desktop icon of the game for an HD icon? Did you ever thought about changing the game interface?
Do you know if it's possible to change some of the engine features to fully support HD textures and DirectX 11?

Just some questions like that...

Thank you

Any upping of the DX level would require a totally new game engine.

That won't happen on a title that is now 15 years old, and with a (sadly) dwindling player base.

Changing aspects of the GUI would be easier than changing the graphics engine, but why bother? By this point, (most) players are familiar with the IL2 GUI and it isn't that bad.

The part of the GUI which could benefit from further development is the FMB, and to a lesser extent the co-op server, which could potentially incorporate good ideas from 3rd party programs.

Not really germane to IL2, but something to consider, is that most civilian flight simulators lack detailed damage models. To my mind, that's a massive mistake since the fundamental rule of flying is "don't break the plane."

Unless there's a real chance that you'll fry the engine if you mistreat it, tear the wings or control surfaces off if you overstress the airframe, or collapse the landing gear if you land too hard, then you're just flying a scenery generator.

Additionally, it appears that DTS is mostly just modernizing the MS FSX game engine. That's an inherently flawed approach since it relies on a whole bunch of "look-up tables". There are better methods out there.

Yep, gotta rebuild pretty much the entire rendering and environmental framework to support DX11, 12, etc., and that basically constitutes writing a whole new game, which we already have in BoB, BoM, BoS, etc...

People have to understand that it's not gonna happen for the legacy IL-2.

Would like an Il2 1946 remaster in the same engine as BOS, but if it's too much and nobody want to make that, I will not force you to do so.

IL-2: BoS is exactly what you're asking for. a Remaster in a new engine.

IL2 BoS is far away from that.
CloD was more it by far than BoS.

Somehow BoS simulation feels wrong.

He said he wanted a "remake in the BOS engine" which is exactly what IL-2: BoS is. The next gen IL-2 and by-and-large its somewhat similar to the kind of thing we got in 2001 with IL-2 Sturmovik.

Not sure what feels wrong...

From the strange feeling that I need to wear glasses when I look unto the landscape, to the plane behaviour while landing.

I don't feel like that on CloD.

Maybe you need to check your prescription
