- The best pilot of the RAF is at it again. I wanted to see how well the sim performed over London. There was a bit of jerkiness, and the building textures didn't always come on as fast as they should, but it was well playable, as you can see. Those .303's feel like paint ball guns, but if you spray and pray for long enough they do seem to bring down even bombers... I guess the Do-17 defensive guns were even more puny...

I like how the bombers go down in a different way every time I manage to put holes in them. Still haven't gotten the big explosions other people mention, but I guess that didn't happen too often in real life either.

As always, hope you like this one, and comments very welcome!

Set correct distance and wingspan setting in the sight. Do17 should be 59ft. Range depends on your convergence. If you have convergence 200, set the sight to 420 and 58ft and when the Do17s wings touch the inner lines of the gun-sight you fire. Not at 20 meters. If you shoot at correct distance with correct convergence you can down 10 Do17 with the ammo you wasted.
When you see the rounds go under the bombers when you aim directly at them, correct and don't continue fire under them. Next time, put the pepper just above the target at that close range and you should hit better.

Thanks for the advice, I'm a nitwit and haven't even looked into setting the gunsight yet! - Not to speak of convergence...

This bit I don't understand:

What is 420?

Eklund89 05-17-2011 12:10 PM

The range is set in yards.
200 meters = 218 yards.
The gun-sight measures from the dot to the inner line so double to get from inner line to inner line. Add some reaction time and error and you get around 420 yards range setting.
Standard convergence is 333m i think.

Nicely done. I can't manage all of the controls yet, without seizing the engine or crashing into a house. I won't even speak of my gunnery skills, or lack thereof.

Ok, just for me to get my head around it:

I should set the luminous circle I see in the above pic to:

(whatever my convergence is)
x 2
+ a little bit more for the yards to meters conversion

Is that it?

And then I should set the horizontal bars to the wingspan of the enemy?

Thanks, great help!

Easy as rapesex

EDIT: i just hope this information don't make people shoot me down easier online :S

Tack, Eklund. That pic is a keeper.

Freycinet 05-17-2011 12:30 PM

Tack så mycket!

BTW, the wingspan, shouldn't it be from horizontal line to horizontal line? Rather than from the line to the middle dot?
