Creating a launcher possible?

Hi,

I would like to know if for 4.14m it could be possible to have a launcher for Il2 1946 to launch the game without DVD and to have an auto-updater with changelog informations?

Thank you

You don't need the DVD to launch the game since the patch 4.10 or 4.11 at least.

You can use the IL2 icon in your desktop, or browse for il2fb.exe where you've installed IL2-1946.

Keep and preserve your DVD! It is worth its weight in gold. ;-)

If that's true, I'm willing to sell you mine for $384.00
That's .6oz in gold in today's market.

Last year I bought a DVD version of IL-2 1946 by Amazon to a Canadian retailer. And I left it on a shelf and forgot about it.

Several weeks ago, I had to reinstall IL2 and assumed it would be a good opportunity to test the new dvd. The box is identical to the one I have from the first version, and it came sealed.

But the latter has only one dvd as a remarkable difference.

Well... the installation was successfull. But the game doesn't run at all and CTD with errors.

Of course, finally I reinstalled IL2-1946 using the earliest version. But the discs are not eternal, and I hate Steam. So I must to preserve the 'Jewel' carefully as best as I can, to be used when it is needed.

I believe my advise might be useful for other players, if they have only a single copy ;)

Mmh... I should have bought two copies of the original version when it was released.

Did you say $384 ? :-|
It could be... Do you accept Visa? :-P

I tried and... I still need the DVD.

Also, what about a new HD version of the icon?

That is strange, from 4.08 I have not needed the DVD, I'm on Windows 7, what OS are you using?

I'm on Windows 10, but I think it was the same when I was on Windows 7 (not sure I never tried).

Another reason to make this is the most Laptop (maybe computer too) don't have DVD drive, so people need external dvd drive.

That's ok to install games or software, but playing a game from a external source is not really recommended I think.

Not sure if it applies here:
some time ago MS uploaded an update called KB3086255
This made it impossible for many older games to start from the disc.

I did not need the disc to launch the game since 4.08 or so but I remember ther was a little programme to work around. In the German community it was called the 'Keks'. Not sure if I can still find it.
