Optical Bug or what'ev?

Just came home from an online fight with a 109E3 in my Spit1a. This 109E3 had optically its wheels down but it was definitely faster than me and outclimbed me with ease. So my guess is that the wheels did not affect the plane performance. So an optical bug?
