More realism in plane models

Hi I Posted this in the ubisoft forum as well.

First of all: Great Sim!

Second: I hate Steam. I have always hated it only slows games down.

Then to my point:
I have been playing now for a week and being a WW2 aviation enthusiast, find it a bit dissapointing that the 109 E cockpit, does not resemble the original in the views to the front sides or back, The cockpit had sharp edges not rounded corners at the top window, the armor plate behind the pilot is missing and so on. I'd like to know what prompted the makers to make such an inaccurate model after trying to do everything so HiFi otherwise?
The sound of the Daimler engine sounds more like my mothers sowing machine that a supercharged Messerschmidt.
I appreciate that the slight engine loss of power when dipping the nose with the Rolls Royce Merlin has been included.
But why not make the Emil what it should be? It was the coolest plane ever...

But again great sim guys. it just seems that someone has forced the watering down of the models.

About the E3 and canopy, have you seen the real E3? The E4 has the sharp edges you describe :) Nothing unrealistic there

Apparently the E3 came with two cockpits.

That was what i based it on :)

Well, I only know that a lot of the early E models had the rounded canopy. E-1 for instance too. But perhaps E-3's were modded with new canopies later on.

My immediate guess of the new canopy design was to improve visual conditions. The old (round) model seems to have a lot of bars running across the screen accompanied with smaller windows to peer through. The E-4 canopy may have been a result of pilots' complaints!

you did notice that one of those jpgs is labelled E4 didn't you?

The canopies were spread all over the place, E4's with early canopies E3's with late ones, it all occurred depending on availability and preference.

Just remember, every E3 equipped with MG-FF/M became automatically a E4!
Regardless of the canopy type.
The rounded canopy was replaced by the square for better pilot protection as they became available.

Also, I challenge you to show me an fps difference in any game running through STEAM and without it.. the system resources used on todays systems is so small that it is literally a non factor..

Ok, prepare to get lambasted.. just warning you up front. The 109E3 is modelled properly It did not have Pilot armor and the forward windscreen had rounded top edges as modelled.. As for the engine sound, are you comparing it to what you hear OUTSIDE the aircraft or what the pilot hears?

Its important to understand what happens when a plane goes through a revision. Some things are modded in the field by the ground crews and the aircraft is brought up to the next level standard. Some changes require more significant work that can be done effectively in the field while still doing the maintenance needed to keep things flying. Often those planes would be rotated back while either new production AC or already retrofitted aircraft would be issued. If an airframe was still useful it would be upgraded until lost or damaged beyond repair. Many an Fw190A5 ended its life as an Fw190A8 after several upgrade cycles.

For an aircraft to be an Me109E3 and still exist today, it is likely it was lost or captured at a time that its upgrade cycle was frozen. It is unlikely that an E4 canopy would be put on an E3 since the parts would no longer be produced and the armored glass of later types was something the pilots wanted...same goes for the pilot armor. There are pictures online of AC that were built as E3's but they now appear to be E4's based on the added upgrades.. so technically you could call them E3's upgraded to E4 standards..
