Submarines & Ships

At this moment Submarines are either Surfaced or submerged with periscope sticking out of the water.

Could this change to something more inteligent?

Shouldn't the Submarine unit sail as it normaly would
and then go through the submerging routine the moment enemy War Ship or Aircraft is detected?

Furthermore the player flying the attacking Aircraft should be able to bomb the Submarine while the unit is at periscope deapth, and the Unit should also be able to dive deaper to avoid the bomb run or attacking War ships.

Ships on the other hand along with Submarines should also aquire Ai so that they could deviate from waypoints at will, when attacking or defending from any kind of situation. (sea -air)

Example :

01 ) Convoy of Transports defended by 2-3 Escort War Ships, meets Uboat (s)

The escort ships should be smart enough to brake from formation and attack defend the convoy.

In the case of an Air Raid the Ships should be smart enough to zig zig trying to avoid
bombs torpeadoes etc..

Off course when all this is mature i would like to be able to switch to 1st person
dismount my AC - Drive to the Naval Station and join a Submarine crew as captain ..or whatever.. also to be able to Drive / mount a tank - AAA - shoot - evade enemy ground fire and personel - steal a vehicle - make it back to base .... and the ranting goes on .......:P

LOL! on the final part of your post.

I've been following development of SOW/COD for many years now, and I've heard a lot of hints that the vehicle AI (including Ships/subs) will be much more advanced than IL2. I also recall a more specific hint about the subs acting in line with your suggestion, but not where I got it from.

One thing that I'm quite sure of regarding COD is that the AI will blow us away. Don't fret GAGA, you'll go gaga over your sub hunting experience!

sounds great!! :)

Agreed.

Seeing as the period did have many elements of naval warfare on both sides...and I assume much of the map(s) will be based over the sea, I hope they've addressed this, and include some fun single missions based on defending/attacking merchant/Royal Navy ships and German subs rather than then usual flying around hunting bombers or evading fighters.

Could they re-create the sinking of HMS Foylebank by 33 Stukas?

This sounds kind of cool. Perhaps a mod or later updates will include something like this. Anti submarine warfare was a huge deal although I think only after the BoB.

This is why this game is a day one purchase with the collector's edition for me. You are already getting a great game day one, and you know there is a ton more coming after release.

Ships using zigs and zags...

Ships pulling emergency manouvers doing attack...

That would be a gigantic step forward from the "one liners" in IL2----> forwaaaartz.......

lol

:)

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i think at some point we've seen a screenshot in the Friday updates showing a ship turning as it comes under attack by a Stuka.

As for subs and ships in general, i think it's been mentioned by the devs that the game engine can support water with actual depth instead of IL2-style generic water.

I'm quite sure It's been said that you'll be able to see submarines under the surface if the water is clear enough and the light is right, and also that submerged objects will effect the surface of the water (I.E. sunken/ sinking ships, and submerging/ submerged subs).

We've already seen 100% more action going on with ships in that 2 seconds of video in the trailer than we've ever seen in IL2. Imagine when we've seen 5 seconds. Or 10.

I heard the fish have independent swim models but the cod and sturgeon are over-modeled.
