great great game

Nokturnal 09-14-2009 04:36 AM

Well it's good news, but i'm patient enough to wait for an officially released Demo instead. :P

szebus 09-14-2009 12:53 PM

The game seems to be a bit hard, it needs a lot of practice from a casual gamer. Anyway the demo is awesome and I can't wait to get my hands on this one, plus it has a great engine what makes it even better.

Nike-it 09-14-2009 12:57 PM

The game is really great, almost finished the russian version. Can't wait to try multiplayer!!!

szebus 09-14-2009 02:02 PM

Do you know, will there be a multiplayer demo or just wait for the full release?

Dose the demo has an end or the player just have to resist until he is defeated ? I can't resist more than 64 days.

The demo doesn't have multiplayer, and as far as I remember, you should defense for 75 days.

Don't know, haven't tried the leaked one. But I think no.

szebus 09-15-2009 02:39 PM

Do you know, can the resource.pak be edited in the demo, how about the final release ?

Haven't heard about it, even between russian players.

Will the demo be available on Steam? The file is rather large, should my download be interrupted, I will have to download it all over again - with Steam, there are no such issues.

I do not have any info about demo at Steam, the inly thing I know, that the full game will be available from 18 September there.

Finally got a working copy of the demo.
I lasted 66 days, a bit too overwhelming but i get a sense that it was meant to be very hard? I managed to destroy all the ogre/vampire/bear "lairs" but they still kept coming from the edge of the map.
Annoying, but it served the purpose of getting the player ready for big never ending battles.

But anyway, it was great fun :) Should be worth buying, will keep me busy while i wait for MoW/ToW sequels & add-ons.
Also it was interesting to see the MoW engine being used in a medieval setting. Everytime i saw a hero flying after a swing from an ogre i was imagining it was actually because a HE round from a tank landed too close :P.

Hahaha, that is true, i got those MoW effects to :)).
BTW, managed to finish the demo, the whole 74-75 days, was making defense and trying to destroy the northern side of the map where the two market places can be put. After reinforcing those to, just made all the upgrades possible for the heroes and let them handle the incoming monsters.

:P.

Use more Clerics, I managed to finish this mission without any losses;)

Well i might have another go tonight after work - If so i'll get another batch of Clerics ;)
I ended up with about 20 heroes by the time they started dropping like flies, most were rangers/warriors though.

I wanted to be able to upgrade my warriors to Paladins, it was just mean to show us the upgrade pictures but with the message "not available in this mission". :P

Mentioned updates are not available only in demo. In full game you will be able to upgrade your troops during this mission.

Yes i figured that it would be possible in the full game - That's what i was saying, showing us the pics but not letting us upgrade now is just teasing. :P

Still good to see all the various upgrades/weapons/abilities for heroes, even if we couldn't use them all.
Did we see every possible building also? Or are there a few we missed out on because we wouldn't of been allowed to build them in the demo?

I personaly didn't play demo, only full version. But it seems that everything is available besides temples (must have for unit upgrades) and Hall of Lords (availbale only in compaign).

Gold is the main solution to make your heroes do anything, and that is really great and unique feature of the game. At first it seems hard, but after some time you will get used to it.

Nokturnal 09-22-2009 10:19 AM

As Nike said, you can't force them but you can encourage them with the flags. They are pretty effective at getting the attention of your heroes if you make it worth their while ;).

Naturally because you are the King, you will be getting your gold back once your heroes return home and spend it on purchasing upgrades, buying potions etc..So not only are you getting them to do what you want, but you also help them upgrade themselves and become more effective.

It's a clever concept, keeps you in control without having to micro-manage.
But with the introduction of the lords i was hoping we might atleast be able to control the couple of lords we can hire. It would be nice to send your lords out to attack something before you place a bounty, then the other heroes can just come in to back them up and there wouldn't be as many casualties :P.

They seem pretty useless currently. I always see them "looking for adventure" but ignoring my bounty flags (or enemies in the town) and when they finally do get into battle, they tend to go home after every encounter.
It's almost like they are suffering of old age and have to rest more than the newer heroes.

Could this perhaps be a mod-able feature?
I saw in another thread someone suggested the game itself should be easy to mod because it's using the MoW engine. But would that include things like giving players control over units?

Nike-it 09-22-2009 11:25 AM

I already saw one mod from russian user, he made the game very similar to Original (edited skills, flags, etc.)

Elwin 09-22-2009 01:53 PM

i have tried second mission in demo is it that hilaroius hard? i have started with building denfse tower, market and warior guild, than blacksmith and cleric yet i was swarmed by mobs and defeated in 19day

2nd try day 29 this time went for rangers first

Nokturnal 09-23-2009 12:04 AM

Elwin - Yes it's meant to be overly difficult.

The mission describes it as a dream, i think their objective was to just give you swarm after swarm (increasing in difficulty) to see how well you can control your palace, finances etc.. when under constant seige.

As Nike suggested to me, get alot of Clerics. They are very handy when they accompany other heroes into battle.
The almost constant healing sound gets annoying after a while though. :P

I wouldn't be buying towers until later on, early in the mission your heroes need any chance to gain XP, plus you can save some of that money to upgrade your items in the blacksmith.

The mission goes for 75 days i believe, i had only managed 69 on the demo, but i played the mission through on the full game and managed 74. (but for an entire "day" my palace was being destroyed by werebears :P )

Elwin 09-23-2009 08:32 AM

werebears you say ... i couldnt deal with ogres xD i destroyed few graveyeards and snakenest but those ogres were too much
hm i often end with thing that my heroes live but ogres destroy guilds and then heroes go to castle and do nothing ...

Pankratz1980 09-23-2009 09:59 AM

OK, so I finally managed to download the demo.
Love it! The second mission was hard, but that's a GOOD thing! Games today "finish themselves", this one actually requires dedication.
Will buy it for sure along with Death to Spies Moment of Truth when it's finally released in the UK.

Yes the ogres are quite a pain, after my first encounter with them i set out to destroy all their caves (is it cave?) before i bothered to clear out the rest of the map. The flying snakes are annoying too, but easy for heroes to kill after they level up a bit.
The ogres have half a dozen caves all down the bottom left hand corner, even a couple tucked away in the far corner that i'd missed when i played the demo.

Unfortunately you can't stop them from spawning because like the werebears, they will eventually be coming from the edge of the map at random intervals. However, if you take out their caves then atleast there won't be as many terrorizing the town.

Don't forget that a big creature (werebear/ogre) coming into town is just a good excuse to throw some gold to your heroes, put on a bounty of 500 or so - Usually get atleast a few interested, hopefully some clerics too so they won't all die :P.
The quicker your heroes get new equipment the quicker you can stop worrying about them, especially wizards and rogues. They always seem to be the first to die out of my heroes.

By the way, i found a forum lastnight that had described a quick and easy way to cheat by editing a save file. Not entirely sure about how much can be changed, but starting gold is all i really wanted, makes those insanely hard to beat levels just a bit more possible.

When i get home later tonight i'll make a thread to pass on the trick to others.
I feel that they really should of included in-game cheats as the original had done. I know cheating isn't always necessary, but with a game like this cheats can make it so much more fun.

Wow..i ramble alot when i'm bored at work.. :P Sorry for the long post.
