aerobatic maneuvers
Hey all. Since this game has the realism to make actual flight skills useful, I've been doing some prep work, but I have a couple questions.
1: is there an online source for aerobatic maneuvers? 2: Can someone explain the stick and rudder motions used to perform a barrel roll? I realize what the plane is supposed to do (rotate with the outer wing moving as though tracing around a barrel). How do you guys perform the move with the stick and rudder? Thanks pros, Ferigno99 |
Well, from having flown planes, I can tell you that when turning in a circle, you tilt the wings, and while turning, you use the rudder to keep your plane level so it doens;t drop down. Thsi is whilst turning, not rolling. However, figuring this game would require you to do that, i tried it but it just makes you go up....less than realistic....ah well.

I thought it was Aerobic maneuvers. LOL
Anyway, there is an encyclopedia that gives you defensive tactics etc. I think it's in Profile or something? |

Hmmm... Maybe I'll just keep messing around and try to figure it out. I'm probably getting ahead of myself.
I'm pretty much the king of overthinking things |

that's me!

Voilá, you should have performed a good barrel roll and see the Ace of Spades on screen. The in-game Encyclopedia is actually a pretty good resource for the aerobatic stunts. You find it under Profile -> Encyclopedia -> Stunts. If you press and hold X button (on 360 - don't know how it works on PS3) you remove the on-screen text so that you can see the actual flight maneuvers from different angles. |
You must have to be in realistic and do a flat spin also, because last night I tried more than 10 times and did immelman, roll, loop, and split s and still haven't gotten the trophy
|
Ha! Sure enough. I did the roll, compensated for altitude, and get the happy russian yelling and the spade card! Thanks.
Sure seems like a tight roll though. Is a pursuing enemy really going to blow by me if I start rolling like that and he doesn't? Cool that the program recognized my maneuver though. |
Just out of curiosity, is there any benefit to getting the card? Is there some sort of achievement, or unlock with them?

That is not a true barrel roll. A true barrel roll has you pulling back on the stick and then performing a roll while still pulling back on the stick all the way through. This will shake their fire a little. |

Maybe you also need to do the hide in the clouds thing? I've got the trophy already btw... did you do the flat spin correctly? normally the game tells you to steer along with the roll with ailerons and against the roll with rudder, but the encyclopedia tells you to leave the ailerons alone and solely use the rudder... |

I can't seem to get the immelman or the split S credit though. Wonder what I'm doing wrong? For the split S, I flip over, and then pull er back until I've come around the bottom, yet I don't get the credit. There really can't be more to it than that. |

I did them all in one session anyway...

So did I - all stunts in ONE training mission. And only by doing Immelmanns, Split S's, Barrel rolls and Inside Loops. No spins and/or cloud hiding. It took more than one of each stunts though. More like 5 Immelmanns, 10 Barrel rolls, 3 loops and a couple of Split-S's...
NOTE: I know that the way I explained the Barrel roll isn't the real way of doing it. But this is a game and it seems as if the key to nailing a stunt is having the wings 100% horisontal before, during and right after you do it. I noted this during Split S practice. Tilt the wings just a tiny bit and you won't see the Ace of Spades. |

Well it was the same for me. I kept getting the cards but no Achievement (im playing the 360 version) which got me angry and into some sort of Aerobatic Berserker Mode or something - flying around like crazy, with almost a whole deck of Ace of Spades on screen. And all of a sudden the Achievement appeared... A bug maybe?

I belive you have to do all these maneuvers on Realistic.
