We need better flightsticks
I just finished the demo...simply one of the most awesome demos ever!
However, I have the Satiek Aviator AV8R for the 360 and I think my right hand is going to fall off. I just iced it down, but it is still dificult to type this. The sim is so much more intense than IL2-1946, which means constant stick handling, twisting, turning, pulling, stretching fingers etc...and the aviator just is not good enough. I miss my CH Flighstick, peddals and throttle...there are just too many functions for one joystick and wrist to take, it would not be so bad if we had some peddals because the twisting for the rudder is what is killing my hand the most. The ambidexterous aviator is NOT ERGONOMICALLY GOOD FOR LONG HOURS of frantic play....what else is out there....and dont say the ACE stick because it looks gay and its deadzone is terrible in ACE combat 6! Oh and my spelling sucks and I dont care because my hand is killing me! |

I finally got to actually spend some time with the demo, and the deadzone really is obnoxious.
It has nothing to do with the controllers. It is programmed into the game. If you take the Ace Edge or Aviator and plug it into the PC you will find that the control itself actually has no deadzone. How they could make a sim game, that is so obviously going to cater to people using a flight stick , and not offer a deadzone adjustment is baffling. :( . |

I am using the Ace Edge, and I know it does not have a hardware deadzone. It is easily tested on the PC. It has nothing to do with simulation mode. There is definitely a dead zone. |
yeah the aviator made my arm hurt alot. really, that shit could bring you a bad inflammation, keep going and the injury will become permanent.
and the deadzone, why! WHY? its terrible, the whole point of the flightstick is precise control. |

As is, I love the game and will buy it, however, I am not sure that I will be playing it because a half hour later and my hand is still numb...anybody wanna buy a slightly used aviator? |
see the deadzone of the ace stick at 07.00 minutes in this vid:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTW4Dgm29p0 I have the same with the Aviator in BoP (not quite as bad, maybe 5 degree angle) |

Also, in that review he says it has no vibration feedback, which is bs. It does indeed have vibration feedback. . |

There is no deadzone using the ace edge hotas on this game zero !! I mean none ! If you move it a hair it makes the plane move. I explained this before,, the ace combat 6 programers made the dead zone there on purpose to not give the flight stick users a edge over the controller gamers. I don't like the look of it either , but Thank God I have it because Anton was right it is AMAZING with this game. Ever bit as good as my X 52 Pro. I even made a video showing the Ace edge has no deazone due to its construction, its the programers job. Digg around on this forum if you want to see it, I posted it here a while ago to explain this whole situation to people. DESODE |

Thanks for your answers guys! |

The ace stick has a rutter control on the back side of the throttle. It is a rocker switch that is kind of like 2 triggers connected together, and functions like a see-saw. |

Thanks guys! |

Okay, I feel like a dummy. How do you control trim on the Ace Edge stick? In the menu, is says the "A" button. Obviously, it can't be that because "A" is the trigger.
|
Would an Ace Edge work on both xbox and ps3? I've heard both both yes and no. More importantly is there no where to buy one without AC6 for xbox??

And it should be in stores without AC6 now. But I am not 100% sure of this. Use T-Flight Hotas for PS3. |
I'm using the Ace Edge and just spent 6 hours with it on the BoP Demo.
I have to say that Anton and his team have nailed the controls with the Ace Edge, ...absolutely, positively nailed it. |

Sweeeeeeeet! This is exactly what I just ordered. Woo! |
THANKS STEINER, I am psyched now for when I get my ACE COMBAT STICK!
|
You think with all the flight games MS would have there own stick out.
|
I wonder if that Hori Flight Stick EX is supported, since it is basicly the same to the Ace Edge.

Looks like I'll be getting the T-Flight Hotas, then. Looks like an awesome stick.

I have been having lots of fun with the demo. As a PC flight sim guy I am glad to say that this has the best graphics for a flight sim outside of Lock On that I have ever seen. The damage, smoke trails, oil on my windscreen, bullet holes, etc is just astounding.
I wish the Ace Edge stick were more sensative and that the dead zone wasn't present in both rudder and stick. maybe they can tweak it a little before launch but unlikely. I want to add that the deadzone is really minimal and tiny, nothing like Ace Combat. I would like to thank the developer for releasing this game!!! I cannot overstate this enough, starved for some realistic action on consoles and playing on LIVE since PC is a pain in the ass to setup and find players who I know. Thank you and hopefully you will make more games like this with support for more realistic peripherals. Maybe you can release your own flight stick with rudder pedals and HOTAS setup, that would be gold! Hi Versapak! LOL |
I'm using a Saitek Aviator and the Zoom and Padlock are on the base. Is there a way to fix this, they should be on the stick. There is no way to use them because your other hand is on the throttle.
Anyone know if this is going to be fixed for release? Thanks! Fun game btw, and yes I play IL2 PC. :) |

I know the stick has no hardware deadzone. I know for a fact that my specific stick does not have any deadzone. I also know that I DEFINITELY had some deadzone when I was playing yesterday. It was not Ace Combat or HAWX big, but it was definitely there. I noticed it in the tutorial, when I went to specifically check for it. It didn't jump out at me when playing the actual campaigns on sim earlier, though I wasn't looking for it, and I may be somewhat used to it from AC6 and HAWX. Again, I just know that there was definitely some deadzone when I went and checked for it in the tutorial. Maybe it is just there in arcade mode. I dunno. I will check it out in sim mode later, but I wouldn't be surprised to find it there. Maybe you and I just have a very big difference in what defines a hair of movement. :P . |

Whats the padlock? Trimmer?? how does it work exactly? Edit: oh padlock in Arcade and realistic? |
Padlock is when you lock your view to a target.

The aviator stick works best for sim mode where you don't need to be hitting those two buttons all the time.
|
Still working on this. Anyone know if the bombs and rockets sharethe "B" button or if Bombs will use "X"? Where is the damn trim button?

I swear, some of these developers need their heads checked if that is true. Seems to me that giving the player responsive control is the goal - programming it out is stupid beyond belief. |
Quote:
On the Aviator stick it is the button on the far right of the base. |

Now you put that to a flightstick. Think of how much more movement there is in getting a flightstick from center to edge. What was actually a tiny little deadzone now covers a far greater area of movement. I can understand it being there, but in a game where flightsticks are going to be common, I can't understand why there is no adjustment for it. |
^ Thanks

On a flight stick, it is the left stick click, which, on an Ace Edge, is a little hat switch on the back of the throttle. |
