Nasty rumor and request for a debunk

On another forum I go to, one of the members mentioned that he attended E3. In spite of all of the positive press regarding "IL-2: Birds of Prey", he says that one of the members of the gaming press said that this game was on the "chopping block". That doesn't seem likely to me, but I'd still like some reassurance from 1C that this is not the case.

If it is, please let us know what we can do to influence the game publisher to the contrary.

IL2BoP has already won Best Console Game award, Best Technology, and Best Simulation Award. So I doubt it's on the chopping block.

Raw Kryptonite 06-21-2009 01:11 AM

I was told by someone that went to E3 that the publisher liked it so much they put more money into it last year. That's why it looks so good, due to the extra time and funding spent on it. Not to mention, games that are already completed aren't "on the chopping block".

guiltyspark 06-21-2009 01:37 AM

its a possibility

but i dont think they would spend time on the website

but it also explains why anton has been so hush lately about the game

Kartman013 06-21-2009 01:49 AM

I also read on another forum that this guys brother-in-laws friend's uncle who's son's room-mate works for a guy that attended E3 in 2008 but couldn't get into this years E3 but has a reliable industry source (that guys granny) - said the game is axed altogether - despite all the recent good publicity website and new trailer ;)

Yeah, I know that it sounded something like that when I posted it. But I wasn't at E3, so I thought I'd check with people who would know better than I.

How is it a possibility?

Even if the financial backing of the developer and publisher fell through - they would still sell the intellectual property to another group (to recoup losses) who would gladly invest money in a finished product, publish it, then reap the profits. In fact certain businesses exist which specialise in doing just this.

The game is complete. Barring some unforseen global disaster (asteroid strike etc) there is a 0% chance of this game being put on the scrap heap. Yay

Anton has probably been hush lately because essentially his job is done. Now he can kick back with a nice glass of Vodka and some beautiful Russian women. I just hope he is generous and shares with us! (you guys can have the Vodka)...

Sorry man, I couldn't help it ;)

This game is coming out and it's going to be a console changer in the way Gran Turismo and Forza were / are.

trk29 06-21-2009 12:33 PM

This is all we need. Posts like this after we finally see more information about the game.

DEBUNKED!

Anton Yudintsev 06-21-2009 07:34 PM

Guys, I am busy - because I am busy :)
The game is 100% complete, the only thing left is submissions/approvings/manufacturing/marketing/selling.
All these thing are very important to any console game, and could take pretty much time, but they can't block game to be published.
It _will_ be on shelves this year, only a humanity disaster (like World War 3) can stop it.

Even if all our publishers will go bankrupt (which is unlikely), we still have the game ready, and so it will be on shelves.

Of course, the future of any potential sequels and, probably, our company depends on sells of the game - but this game will be out in any case.

I hope, you guys (I mean, our audience in general) will buy enough copies to make game profitable, and press will be generous and gives us good ratings - and then we'll make a new flight-sim game, with more different single player and multiplayer experience, and a lot of new content... so the future of console flight sim gamings now lays in your hands ;)

You can count on us Anton ;) Many people are interested in this game in France. The last video was watched more than 30 000 times in 5 days in the french site jeuxvideo.com and his forum is very alive (There are may be more people than the forum 1C) People really believe that Il-2 Birds of Prey will dethrone HAWX and Ace Combat. I am sure BoP will sell :)
I hope you will make a new flight-sim game, this would be really nice especially if it takes WW2 :)

Anton, that's great news because I believe we would have started WOIII if the game didn't hit the shelves. In the Netherlands the game has landed on the major game sites. You already have won some prizes and I will personally by all copies in Holland if that is what it takes to get sequels... I'm pretty sure the others here will do the same.

Thanks for the info Anton. This is great to know, seeing as one of my main reasons for recently buying a PS3 was to play BOP. I got freaked-out after I read the initial post...

bsmith13 06-23-2009 01:40 AM

Thanks for all of your replies, especially yours, Anton. I am excited for this game like I haven't been for years!
:)

haitch40 06-24-2009 03:34 PM

im definitely buying this game it looks good although i do prefer the pacific war.
keep it up this is what will make you a world famous developer

Marchochias 06-25-2009 02:57 AM

You can count on my support! And I'll see what other Canadians I can persuade to get the game.

It won't be difficult to persuade them, the game just looks incredible.

There hasn't been a flight simulator EVER on consoles (only arcade garbage like ace combat), so such a high quality flight simulator is definitely going to be popular, word of mouth alone should help it sell tons.

BadKarmaSutra96 06-25-2009 06:00 AM

Over-G Fighters was probably the closest to a sim as consoles have gotten so far.

I'd love to see a flight game on consoles that has the living battlefield feel that Falcon 4.0 had.

I consider over g fighters an arcade title, and a very low quality one at that. It isn't in the same league as IL-2, that's for sure.

Awesome WW1 FLight Sim next please!

Presentation was horrible, but the gameplay and flight are excellent. Not a full sim, but much closer to that than arcade. Nothing like AC6 or Hawx. The more time you spend with OGF the more you see the details they packed into it.

I agree! WW2 only please! The best era for aviation EVER....

Axe99 06-27-2009 10:06 PM

You've got a deffo buyer here Anton, and will pre-order if I can find a store to do it, I've been waiting for a great console flight sim for over a decade now, and enjoyed IL-2 on PC (but am a console gamer by preference, particularly with no need to worry about specs and stability and stuff). Really looking forward to BoP :D.

Agreed. I would like to see 1946 and Pacific Fighters somehow become addons so we can combine all of the theatres together like the original.
