Forum 1C interview: if you could ask 3 questions

Just 3, no cheating! :-P
Maybe Anton will be able to answer these now or in the near future.
Try to keep it as short and sweet as possible so maybe we can learn more about the best game of 2009. ;)

1)Will multiplayer feature an attack/defend gametype featuring bombing/escort?

2)Will the host in multiplayer be able to set up the room as "cockpit only"?

3)Will we be able to fly full length co-op missions? As in taking off from the base to the objective and back again in a co-op game.

Who's next?

EDIT:
Compiled list of forum interview questions as of 4/28/09.

Gameplay related:
Quote:

***Will we deal with limited fuel in single player and multiplayer?

***Is there a P-38 to fly?

***How is navigation handled? On screen indicators, map/HUD or written mission directions etc. How do we find where we're going in the game?

***Will be able to add different markings to planes to show we are aces or newbies, and/or create our own skins in game?

***Is there going to be wash from the plane getting close to the water or land?

***Confirm July release? Demo?
***(other) Release date? ;)

***Average single player completion time?

***What is Antons personal favourite campaign/mission?

***If BoP is successful, there will be another version of Il-2 in next gen who close to the simulation on a PC?

***Parachutes?

***Blood on canopy when shot? If there is, will it also effect the controls of the plane because of the pilot's injury?

***Will the game have a carrier? Like a British one in the Battle of Britain?

***I was curious about the reward system for ranking up in multilayer. How does the game reward you for doing well?

***Can we zoom in on the pipper?

***Can you see replays? If so, can we save them?

***1 map = 1 theatres of war? (it is possible to fly above London?)

***Is it possible to land everywhere with our plane where there are land?

***Will germans speak german and russians speak russian in the game? (original voice)

***Will IL2 support the AC6 flightstick?

***I heard you can black out if you pull to mutch g-s how does this work(Can you recover from this or is is lights out?

***Will we be seeing IL2 at E3?

***What planes are included for the Battle of Britain period, flyable and non flyable?

***What will the AI be like?

***Also, are the maps to scale-say, are they correctly modeled?

***Is the campaign historically accurate; say can you get covoy patrol mission where nothing may turn up? Or others when you get more trade than expected?

***Will BOP for ps3 use the youtube upload feature like Tom Clancy's Hawx?

***Can we make custom missions for multiplayer like in the original IL2.
ANSWERED:
Anton: ...no, there won't be public editor for BoP. Consoles adds certain limits, and making console-proof editor is hard work.

---Is this still the case?

***Will there be any kind of DLC in the future to make it possible?

***Will there be any sort of practice/free flight feature that lets you take off in a plane and just fly around for fun and then land again? Where you can just cruise around the maps, checking stuff out, practicing aerobatic moves etc.

Multiplayer specific:

Quote:

***Will multiplayer feature an attack/defend gametype featuring bombing/escort?

***Will the host in multiplayer be able to set up the room as "cockpit only"?

***Will we be able to fly full length co-op missions? As in taking off from the base to the objective and back again in a co-op game.

***Can we confirm that there is co-op and is it the campaign or other? How many people can be involved?

***Will we be able to form squadrons? (clan support)

***Will three or four people be able to occupy one plane so there can be a pilot and gunners?

***In multiplayer mode, it will there be a mode where each team will be to destroy the enemy's airport by bombardment?

***There will be a multiplayer mode in split screen?

***Can you make a private room...multiplayer and for free flight (for say formation flying)

trk29 03-19-2009 02:46 AM

1) Will three or four people be able to occupy one plane so there can be a pilot and gunners?

2) Will be able to add different markings to planes to show we are aces or newbies, and/or create our own skins in game?

3) Is there going to be wash from the plane getting close to the water or land?

Tomo 03-19-2009 02:47 AM

Release date?

Average single player completion time?

What is Antons personal favourite campaign/mission?

Stanrosquain 03-19-2009 10:02 AM

-If BoP is successful, there will be another version of Il-2 in next gen who close to the simulation on a PC?

-In multiplayer mode, it will there be a mode where each team will be to destroy the enemy's airport by bombardment?

-There will be a multiplayer mode in split screen?

I don't think Anton could answer our questions. That would spoil the surprise.:) When the game is released in France, I buy it.

Anton Yudintsev 03-19-2009 11:19 AM

Sorry guys, I'm very busy with GDC event and launch of the site.
Will be back on 2nd of April, and answer as much questions as I'll be able to.
Please, keep questions in this one topic, without flood.

guiltyspark 03-19-2009 12:38 PM

AWESOME , he is going to be at GDC !

Great! Will be paying attention for GDC coverage for a glimpse of IL2.

Anton Yudintsev 03-19-2009 06:10 PM

Guys, GDC for me is not about IL-2.
I am doing business there.

xNikex 03-19-2009 08:00 PM

Yeah, GDC (Game Developers Conference) is a mostly buisness type deal. Not a place where you can watch everyone play the public demo etc.

And yes, lets keep these threads on topic so we dont have to keep making new ones, unlike my "Questions about game" one.

My questions:

1) Parachutes?

2) Blood on canopy when shot? If there is, will it also effect the controls of the plane because of the pilot's injury?

3) Wil the game have a carrier? Like a British one in the Battle of Britain?

Scottyb825 03-20-2009 12:08 AM

I just have one question cause mostly everybody took mine.

1) I was curious about the reward system for ranking up in multilayer. How does the game reward you for doing well?

xNikex 03-30-2009 03:08 AM

Just to keep this thread up...

Got three more:

1) Can we zoom in on the pipper?

2) Replays? If so, can we save them?

3) Confirm July release? Demo?

Stanrosquain 03-30-2009 10:15 AM

3 others questions:
-1) 1 map = 1 theatres of war? (it is possible to fly above London?)
-2) Is it possible to land everywhere with our plane where there are land?
-3) Will germans speak german and russians speak russian in the game? (original voice)

philip.ed 03-30-2009 05:41 PM

Here's my 3:

-What planes are included for the Battle of Britain period, flyable and non flyable?

-What will the AI be like?

-Also, are the maps to scale-say, are they correctly moddled?

One more please...;)

-is the campaign historically accurate; say can you get covoy patrol mission where nothing may turn up? Or others when you get more trade than expected? ;)

Anton said a list of planes will be available on the website when launched.

Will BOP for ps3 use the youtube upload feature like Tom Clancy's Hawx? That feature is awesome.

What? What do you mean? Hawx uses a feature where you can record what your doing and then upload it to YouTube or save it to your HDD.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKzyG...e=channel_page

Thanks Anton!

I saw in a gameplay video a guy pulling up a map while in flight.
Similar to the original I believe.

peterdegrotere 04-07-2009 04:48 PM

1) Can you see replays of your gameplay

2)Can you save your replays offline online, like on the pc, people make beautiful movies

3)Can you make a privite room online to play around in with a friend

jt_medina 04-10-2009 11:31 PM

One simply question.
Can we make custom missions for multiplayer like in the original IL2.
If it is not. Will there be any kind of DLC in the future to make it possible?.
I think it would give an endless gameplay to BOP.

xNikex 04-11-2009 12:03 AM

There is an editor

Yes there willl be a "Mission Editor" in the game.
I heard you can fit a lot of planes and targets in it.:)

GabeFan 04-11-2009 12:26 AM

Will there be any sort of practice feature that lets you take off in a plane and just fly around for fun and then land again? It would be nice in-between missions to be able to take any of the planes for a flight and just fly around and look at the beautiful landscapes without fear of getting shot at.

Thanks for any info....

Anton did say there would be a training mode, but I'm sure you could just use the mission editor for that. Like for just flying, flying in formation, and of course missions.

Tomo 04-11-2009 01:14 AM

Wow, i'd never heard about this mission editor?

That's good news!

Without the mission editor this would not be IL-2. Did you ever play the original? This is Great News

jt_medina 04-11-2009 01:58 AM

I would like to see if Anton can confirm that point about the mission editor. I really enjoyed with the original IL2 mission editor, if it is confirmed it will really be great to have one on BOP.With that feature available we can have BOP for a long time and create a good community of mission makers.

Then there could be DLC packs with more airplanes, maps... and with those graphics BOP has a great potential.
I was even thinking that with those great detailed maps there could be playable vehicles in later expansions. Tanks, maybe infantry... Just an idea.

Anton Yudintsev 04-11-2009 02:26 AM

I'll start answer questions end of next week.
But no, there won't be public editor for BoP. Consoles adds certain limits, and making console-proof editor is hard work.

Well thats ok, COOP can make up for that.

No editor, no coop. Too much limited in my opinion. A few weeks lifespan for BOP.
You can play scripted missions but, what else after that?.

I can be repetitive but the long lifetime of the original IL2 was precisely thanks to its editor, online modes and coop.
Sorry for the critics but I see it very limited. Graphically this BOP is simply amazing but your team should work harder on multiplayer playability and some ultra simplified multiplayer mission editor.
Something like by selecting your takeoff airfield and adding in random targets on the map according with the type of mission that the player has chosen to play on. It could be something like the quick mission editor on IL2 but adding a map to select targets on it.

Anton please, don´t bother with my critics. I want with my comments just to see this BOP as a greater product.

Stanrosquain 04-11-2009 02:26 PM

Il-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey will be the best game of console on air that there had ever been, with or without coop and public editor:)

Yes, I do agree completely with you:) that it will be the best. But, for how long can you play over and over the same missions even if they are made for multiplayer?.

Oh, I thought I remember reading something about it. I could be wrong though. Maybe he said it would be in sequel or something... Oh, well, thats ok.

But there is a mission editor. It's not IL2 without an editor.:)

GabeFan 04-11-2009 05:46 PM

Just curious... I've never played the PC version of IL-2, so what exactly were you able to do with the PC mission editor?

I'm guessing you could choose a plane to fly, type of mission (dogfight, escort, bombing), number of enemies, target (airfield, bridge, factory, etc...). Basically build your own mission?

You can make any kind of mission that you wanted to make. I mean anything.
Only people who have flown the original IL2 can understand how great the mission editor is.
If a mission editor was made on BOP you could have endless playability by making new missions yourself.
And there are some tools out there to make simpler missions in a few clicks so it is a matter of willingness or deadlines not a technical difficulty.

Tomo 04-12-2009 12:04 AM

I'm sure it could be introduced with dlc. Look at what gtaiv has done with dlc.

Hopefully it's something they will consider.

Well, I know for a fact I read it in some websites(but they are not Anton;)), but just to set it clear(from someone who knows for a fact), Anton, will there be a mission
editor?

If not, PLEASE make it DLC.

Well i think he meant that we cant publish them online(like farcry2) since he said 'public' editor, but lets just wait for his reply.

but if its not in there im sure it would be a dlc.

besides, im looking more forward to flying with my friends(and hopefully some of you guys) than anything else.:)

BTW it's wierd how we're having 'almost' conversations with each other in these threads. There needs to be more people here.

Tomo 04-12-2009 07:38 AM

Hahah yeah there isn't a lot of traffic! Hopefully the new website has a dedicated forum.

I see what you mean about the non-public editor. Hopefully that works out.

I'm really hoping for a free fly mode where you can just cruise around the maps, checking stuff out, practicing aerobatic moves etc.

Really hanging out for some detailed info about the game! Hopefully IGN or one of the other big sites does a new "hands on" soon. It's been a loooooooong time since this game has had independent media coverage.

Skii 04-12-2009 09:24 AM

1) Will there be a free flight option? it would be good to train or familiarise oneself with an aircraft prior to combat

2) Has the enemy AI been improved? or will we get the same predictable AI behaviour whenever we get to a certain distance behind them

3) What kind of map/area size doe the game work with?

jt_medina 04-12-2009 12:10 PM

Yeah, it would be very neat to see the beautiful terrain I've heard so much about first hand without having a 109 at my six.;)

But to jt_medina don't say that just yet. I even found where I read about it having one, but lets see if Anton can confirm or deny. :(

And yes, now that Flashpoint 2 won't be having one, I'm not going to buy it. And I won't buy for my PC cause I'm saving room for ArmAII in case it doesn't come to Xbox.

Hopefully it will have it. Anton said that they just finished the 360 version. I am sure they are working on the PS3 now.

Anton Yudintsev 05-01-2009 06:45 AM

Of course, there will be Trophies.
I've just started answer questions, and now we are deciding with publisher how to release them (I guess, it will be community updates on a web-site, but of course, I'll cross-post answers here).

I've just started answer questions, and now we are deciding with publisher how to release them (I guess, it will be community updates on a web-site, but of course, I'll cross-post answers here).

Thanks for your questions.

Your a good man anton thanks for the reply, but where or when can see the site for answers? This game looks badass by the way, hats off.

Can we please have the correctly configured 8 gun Browning .303 armed MkIa or MkIIa Spits for the Battle of Britain campaign?

Cannon armed Spits only made a very small and brief appearance with 19 Sqn during the BoB period, and then again briefly with 92 Sqn after the Battle in November.

The Spitfire featured in the XBOX Live demo and on the website is a MkVb - these did not become operational until Spring '41.

3 questions about much the same thing.
1) How many friendly and enemy planes can be selected to be in the air at the same time in training mode?
2)Can aircraft respawn in training mode or do you have to go back to the menu every time you die?
3)Can you select the option to start on the ground in training mode?

1.Where's the ps3 demo?
2.When's the demo on psn ?
3.Is this game actually going to be released on the ps3 ?
....Cheeky I know,but that's what I'd ask.
(Being an unfortunate ps3 owner craving some time with the demo)

Just for interests sake...

1) How did you go about researching for flight model accuracy? Did developers have to actually go fly some planes?
2) Some planes in BoP are either very rare or are not flyable, how did you know how to model the flight dynamics of these?
3) How many people worked on creating the game? In other words, how big is the BoP development team?

I can answer your first 2 questions. The game engine used in BOP is a port of the 2001 PC sim IL2 developed by Oleg Maddox and the 1C team. Of course it was upgraded over the years with physics tweaks, more planes, scenarios, etc. You'd probably need to find an old interview with Oleg which details how he knows so much about WW2 planes.

Birds of Prey development adds in an updated graphics engine and of course their own campaign/missions/etc.

One of the videos shows a green biplane.

Does anyone know if the bombers will have a cockpit.

No we don't but we do know that you can change positions in the plane from pilot to different gunner positions, so hopefully they will and the gunners will be behind the glass bubbles.

Thanks trk29 and hopefully they do.

Hi,

Thank very much for your comment. It help me to think about for my ideals.
