[REL] 4.12 Official Release

Dear IL-2 fans.

On behalf of 1C:Maddox Games and Daidalos Team, we are pleased to present you the patch 4.12.

The development of 4.12 patch took us once again much longer time to complete than expected. Our main focus this time was on delivering some of the most requested features plus AI & mission building improvements. Development was started by gathering a list of most requested features from several forums and trying to figure out what we can implement with our small team. This time we also included some visual improvements (in form of effects, textures & UI changes) instead of the usual simulation & realism tweaks only. And of course the patch would not be complete without few new flyable & AI planes. All of them our dear favorites that we've hoped to fly for the past decade or so. For example the Curtiss Hawk-75 external model was delivered to Maddox Games almost exactly ten years ago by a member of our team. Now ten years later it is time for the cockpit. So you can expect to see Beaufort cockpit in 2023 (or in two weeks).

As with the previous patches we would like to ask the IL-2 community members to please report any relevant issues or errors we did not catch through our beta testing process. We will open new 4.12 debugging threads soon.

Of course you can also use our DT email for the bug reports: daidalos.team@gmail.com

We would like to thank all those who made their mirror servers available for the 4.12 patch download. Please note that Mission4Today download links are available for its registered members only.

II./JG1_Britchot 06-17-2013 08:56 PM

Awesome work, fellas. There are plenty of us here that still hinge on each update that breathes life to this old, but great, simulation.

Flying H 06-17-2013 09:05 PM

Woooeee! More flying to came!! This sim is outrageous and all you modders are ......... you just make me speachless!!! A million THX!

nic727 06-17-2013 09:12 PM

thx very much DT :D

Wait for 2023 for Beaufort cockpit :)
When will we have B17 cockpit? In 2046?

Lol

Good job with the patch. Can't wait to test it. I had to create a mission4today account.

Spudkopf 06-17-2013 09:16 PM

Usually I have a quick look at my email and the TD forum before I head of to work, sadly even though I had plenty of time up my sleeve, this morning I just did not not bother, so you can imagine my annoyance when I get to work and lop onto the forum only to see that 4.12 has been released, bugger now I have to wait all day before I can even download the 4.12 sweetness let alone fly it.

My first clue to something being up was when I noted that there were 89 viewers on the TD forum instead of the usual maximum dozen or so.

But a big thanks to TD all the same.

Oh well only 8 hours to go, 7:59:59, 7:59:58, 7:59:57.........

BadAim 06-17-2013 09:22 PM

You guys RoxxoRs! Thanks a million for all of the hard work and dedication.

ElAurens 06-17-2013 09:47 PM

Thanks Gents.

Can't wait to get in to the Hawk and see how she does.

nic727 06-17-2013 09:55 PM

Where can I find the 4.12m demo mission in the game? Can't find it in Campain, simple mission, etc. or I just didn't see it.

thx

Spinnetti 06-17-2013 10:13 PM

Great, thanks!

Treetop64 06-17-2013 10:23 PM

Treetop sees "[REL] 4.12 Official Release" in the forum.

Due to being incredulous, Treetop pauses, then blinks...

Treetop pinches himself. Yup, awake and fully aware...

.

Treetop thrusts fists in the air in unbridled joy.

.

Treetop calls in sick for the next three days...

davido53 06-17-2013 10:27 PM

I installed and now nothing works.

Using JGSME i clicked on HSFX and I get the startup screen showing HSFX with version 4.11.1 starting, then at 35% I get a window stating 'The application has requested that it be terminated due to runtime library blah blah blah'.

Ok, the only way I got this to start was by loading the 'safe dlls' using JGSME.

headsup for anyone else having my problems

Spinnetti 06-17-2013 10:35 PM

downloaded in under a couple min. Initially wouldn't open the installer (I'm on win7 x64), but when I ran from the .zip it worked fine for some reason. Once installed, fired up fine first time installed over a clean 4.11.1. At first widescreen didn't work. It showed my correct resolution, but didn't use it, staying in 4:3 mode. I changed to a different resolution, then changed back and it worked. Some bit of strange there, but was easy enough to work around.

Thanks for all the new great content!

If you are using HSFX then you have installed the 4.12 over a Modded version of 4.11.1.

Install instructions and first post of this thread clearly state that an unmodded version of 4.11.1 is required to install 4.12 patch.

nic727 06-17-2013 10:59 PM

First feedback :

I really love the new effect and the new damage model (if there is???). Really like the new plane, etc.
I like all the patch.
http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/...7-grab0001.jpg

But there is few things to fixe if possible (if it's easy)

- Smoke need to be longer
- Smoke when there is fire need to be darker (kind of black)
- For the map, it could be nice to have the map on the right corner or be able to move it :
http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/...7-grab0002.jpg

nic727 06-17-2013 11:01 PM

And nobody answered my question : How to play the demo mission (mountain 4.12m). Can't find it in the "simple mission".

thx

Buster_Dee 06-17-2013 11:07 PM

Strange. T4T lets me sign in, shows the download as available, then tells me I have to sign in when I click on the download.

EDIT: problem with one of my PCs (some kind of IE setting I guess). 2nd PC downloaded fine.

Simply, you need to install over a clean 1946 installation, not a modded one, and not a modded one with mods deactivated.

Fenrir 06-17-2013 11:27 PM

Hi guys,

Anyone else finding that hitting 'Esc' in mission does nothing? I can't end missions! Help!

Running 1920x1080x32, fullscreen & wide FoV on Windows 7 with GTX 560Ti.

Possibly related but I can't get rid of the mouse cursor in mission.

davido53 06-17-2013 11:42 PM

I uninstalled all mods using JGSME, then ran into numerous problems. Using JGSME I installed the 'safe dll' mod and got the start screen, but when I click on 'quick mission' the whole shebang freezes up, my mouse freezes up, I have to reboot the computer.

Great fun!

I have to disagree about the color. It looks great right now. Perhaps you're too used to seeing that atrocious smoke for 10 years.

Anyway, you can move the map by clicking with both mouse buttons, and dragging.

No... you are missing the point.

This is an official patch.. It should be installed over a STOCK 4.11.1 .. NOT a modded version. Deactivating the mods does not turn it into a stock version. It is still a modded version playing in stock mode with no mods activated. Hopefully you have a backup.

By now .. and I can't remember how many times I have said this and I know I am not the only one.. but by now every person who flies IL2 should have at least one stock backup. Two if you fly UP/DBW (One 4.10.1 and one 4.11.1 or now 4.12) and a backup of the modded version they fly. Not only that ... before installing any patch it is always advisable to back up yourt stock version. You can always dlete the old backup once you test the newly patched version and make sure it works. Perhaps you can do a restore. That is what I would try first. Don't feel too stupid.. I formatted my backup drive once when my main drive crashed and I was trying to install a new one.. stuff like this happens.. and don't blame TD.. this is all on you my friend.. Good luck.

.. and a heart felt

THANK YOU!!

to TD... ~!S!~

Dude, you have to install over a clean unmodded 4.11.

Great fun!

Again...

A CLEAN, VIRGIN, COMPLETELY MOD FREE 1946 installation is required. Not one with mods in stalled. Not one with mods installed but deactivated via JGSME.

Very simple concept.

Just play a bit and check how it looks with faster planes (i.e. when falling/diving down). The Wellington in your picture is quite slow, as far as I can tell. Smoke lenght rises with planes speed.

Buren 06-18-2013 07:13 AM

Thank you Team Daidalos for yet another great patch!

The new effects and the native widescreen (+FoV) support makes this a game-changer.

Surprised nobody commented yet on the new firing particle and smoke effects and especially how the bullets ricochet from the ground. These are simply excellent. Also digging the new subtle splash when an autocannon round hits -- no more of the old inane mini-explosions.

Gave the new aircraft a spin, I must highlight that I simply love the Hawk's cockpit, it's obvious that it is a work of love.
Really glad to see the new japanese planes too -- especially the B5N, it really fills the blank in the whole aircraft park, but the two-engined heavy fighter was important for the Japanese side (and probably will end up flying the latter more).
Not too interested in the SB right now (that's subjective, but seems like some folk really looked forward to it), but it's definately one step closer for a complete russian flyable list. What are we missing? The Tu-2 and DB-3 comes to mind as more prominent.

Summa summarum, there's still much life in the old 'gal.

Looking forward to 2023.
S!

I though that it was working with times. Exemple : smoke during time 15 sec before disappeared...

How to launch demo mission?

Thx very much DT for the patch. 8)

Jack_Aubrey 06-18-2013 08:10 AM

Well the torpedo sight for the Kate it's working!!! .... i'm happy!!! now do the same trick for the SM79 and anyother plane with a torpedo sight and i dont care if it's for the 5.09 ;D

Yes, thats right, but only for each particle (simple plane mesh with a puffy texture). They spawn with a fixed 'number per time' and so they are closer together, if you fly slowly, hence the trail is shorter.

I think, from FMB.
There are some single missions too.

1. ok, but is it possible to change the time, because now it's look like it's 2-4 secondes, but I would like about 10 sec.

2. Yep thanks, I found it :)

Tolwyn 06-18-2013 02:36 PM

Maybe I'm drunk, but the game seems to load faster, and run smoother with in 4.12.

I'm very happy/impressed. Love the subtle changes.

The B1-6 still has unlimited power when out of fuel and using the ramjets, though. :)

And NIGHT time is still WAY too dark (the method by which night is rendered using the alpha channel (transparency) of the blackout effect is not a great implementation). At least, this is how I perceive it's accomplished.

By the way, I have HSFX and am able to easily disable it and installed 4.12 with no problems; but maybe because I do not use the auto-updater. I can explain how if anyone is interested (via PM).

I also now have created a MOD that brings it back to stock 4.11.1, then I can apply HSFX, etc. (DT.dll, files.sfs, fb_3do24.SFS, fb_maps18.SFS is all you need to backup/restore from 4.11.1 to 4.12.). The other SFS files are ignored with 4.11.1.

I've never, in 12 years have had more than one installation of IL2. :) Now, I realize with DBW and UP that might be a problem, but HSFX is pretty clean and easy (although I despise auto-updaters).

Treetop64 06-18-2013 02:39 PM

The thing I'm really diggin' now, in addition to everything else, is the new impact effects of rounds hitting an aircraft, especially the "knocking-the-dust-off" effects. So far I've only used the guns on the LaGG-3, BF-109F2, and F4F-3 Wildcats and it all looks very cool, and gives the experience an authentic feel.

Very much appreciate the reduced impact flash effects for smaller caliber rounds, and also the reduction of the "green Corn Flakes" debris trail following behind an aircraft being shot. The over-the-top nature of that and the flash effects always annoyed me in previous versions of the game.

The only thing that is annoying with the patch it's for the command. Before it was 7 to call help, now it's 8... So each time I want help I click on the other thing and nobody understand
And the same thing for calling airfield. Before it was 8 and now it's 9.

You would have won on the first plane I flew though.

;)

My first flight was a 1 v 1 in the QMB with me in a Hawk 75 A3 in French livery, vs. a Bf 109 E4. It was a very interesting fight. Subjectively the Hawk does not appear to be very fast if you just fly it straight and level, but, it is a VERY dynamic airframe in the combat mode. It's high roll rate (historical) gives you many options, and add the fact that it turns quite well indeed and can be dived well and it is a very satisfying plane to fight in. I managed to get a good defection shot on the 109's radiators, and it was all downhill for him after that.

The [Tab] commands menu has been changed slightly. For example, when calling for immediate help, it's now "[Tab] - 8" instead of "[Tab] - 7". There are a few other changes to the menu, too.

This will undoubtedly catch out those who had keystrokes memorized and could just scythe through multiple layers of the commands menu without looking at it. It's a minor issue, though, and not a problem that a few flights and memorization can't fix.

Hi Tolwyn! Yes, I noticed that too, but unmodded installs are always quicker to load than modded so whether it's any quicker than stock 4.11.1 I wouldn't be able to tell you....

Can't agree with you here mate - I think the darkness is spot on given that it was reported in a host of veterans stories that some nights you couldn't see a damn thing, horizon or otherwise. In some situations it might even be too light still in game IMHO but that's just my two cents.

I agree. Night flying in this game is as tricky as it ought to be. If anything, it sometimes isn't dark enough as you can almost always see a bit of sunlight glowing past the horizon, no matter how late it is.

Clear, full moon nights is another matter, however...

dpeters95 06-18-2013 06:12 PM

To all the people at TD, thank you for all your time and efforts!!!

Tolwyn 06-18-2013 06:17 PM

I should have been more careful.
The Dark is okay... BUT EVERYTHING is dark across the board. It's like they put up this large black graphic and just turned down the opacity of it. The PIT, with lights on, should be much brighter. The OUTSIDE part is okay. But the method by which they MAKE it dark (the "trick" they use) seems off to me.

This will undoubtedly catch out those who had keystrokes memorized and could just scythe through multiple layers of the commands menu without looking at it. It's a minor issue, though, and not a problem that a few flights and memorization can't fix.

Yeah, but I have the reflex to click TAB-8 to call airfield, but instead of that, I call for help (even if I'm trying to land) lol.

Please, I can't login to M4T, and I don't use torrent. Any non-member-only mirror I can DL the patch from?

Hello TD gang,
Looks like I'm the first one of us to reply on this one, so on behalf of all the whole Fighting Irish Squadron...
THANK YOU !!!!!

Haven't downloaded yet but already reading good things. I'm sure I speak for all of us in telling you guys (and all others involved) that words fall short of adequately expressing our appreciation for all you've done to extend and enrich the life of this incredible sim. We're humbled and very, very grateful for all the YEARS of fun, laughs and good times we've had thanks to IL-2! :D:grin::grin::grin::grin:

Once again, TD, many many thanks. The wait seemed much longer than it really was - as always - but it was well worth it.

I do have one question, however. According to the 4.12 guide, part of the User Interface can be accessed in flight. How does one activate the UI in flight?

Kate and Val airspeed question

Wow what a wonderful patch, thanks tremendously for the new planes and love the reticle brightness etc.
Have a question though regarding the bombsight in the val and kate, it is the same as the pe-2 so no problems with using/understanding it but my question is what is the airspeed gage in the cockpit set in, kph,mph or knots??

also in the ki-45 there is a either a small flat piece of armored glass directly in front of the sigth or there is some type od distortion past the sight, kinda looks like a flat armored glass but not rendered all around. Speaking of ki45, what is the arliest combat date, did it participate in the singapore campaign of 41-42??

once again thanks oooodles for the new fun.

Simply by pressing ESC. I.e. you can change joystick settings now in-flight, which wasn't possible before.

Since these are navy planes, measurement should be in knots. AFAIK army planes used metric system.

That's the way it was.

Happy to hear that triple monitors work. We had nothing to test it. :-)

EJGr.Ost_Caspar, with the new customizable sounds are weapon sounds also modifiable?
Ive got engines working without trouble, but weapons sounds will not change.

Untamo 06-19-2013 06:28 AM

S!

Thank you TD for the continued support of the game!

dl-3b 06-19-2013 07:10 AM

Thank you very much for the patch team!!!
By the way, nice job on the haystacks on the Slovakia map. I set the whole country site of Slovakia on fire.

cellinsky 06-19-2013 07:12 AM

Superb work TD. A long wait is over!!! Works like a charm on my eyefinity setup. Well done. I really love it....
Sidenote: Is there a way to have the menuescreens in 5:4 ratio and the actual in game res set to very widescreen?. I use 5292:1050 with bevel compensation and half of the knobs an dropdowns are hidden behind them. No biggy but would be nice. Since the menue is now "responsive" anyway....?

Again thank you very much for youre efforts
Cello

FlyingShark 06-19-2013 03:48 PM

Thank you so much.

Hans.

baball 06-19-2013 05:16 PM

TD... Please be gentle. ;)

StorkNet 06-19-2013 06:01 PM

I have the same problems as Cellinsky. In addition to trouble with setting screens, there is a problem with large font sizes in the infoblocks (I think they are scaled relative to the horizontal resolution). These problems can be tolerated, but if you can make something — that would be great. For example, give instructions for changing the "rubber" interface to fixed. I think (hope) that the code amendments for such changes are not very vast…

TelluricSummer 06-19-2013 06:28 PM

Thank You DT!!!! :-P

E Hood 06-19-2013 08:32 PM

Thank you so much, Caspar. I'll try that. Meanwhile, I'd like to thank you and the rest of the team once again. The sim just gets better and better, and my sense of obligation gets deeper and deeper.

anikollag 06-19-2013 09:03 PM

Thanks so much DT!
